"So I hear Floyd wants to give me a rematch now. Our first fight had a rematch clause. It had to take place within the year. He retired a year and one day," stated Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar De La Hoya, who wasted no time in responding to undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather after he offered to give him a rematch when he returns to the ring on September 12. Recently, De La Hoya himself suggested that he was thinking about making a comeback.
During an appearance at his gym to help promote Saturday's showdown between Adrien Broner and Shawn Porter, Mayweather was asked for his thoughts on De La Hoya's talk of a comeback. "I mean, if he wants to, we can rock and roll in September. We can do it at 54. He already know that. He said he wanted the rematch, so if Oscar want it, he can get it in September," Mayweather commented.
Hours after making that statement, De La Hoya posted a short video on his official Instagram page turning the offer down. "Look, I'm retired, I'm happy, I'm content. I'm never coming back. I'm gonna continue growing Golden Boy," he added. Check out the video below!
