"They have to think long term. A lot of people aren't recognizing what this man is doing with his company," stated Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar De La Hoya, who shared his thoughts on Al Haymon and the impact that he's having on boxing. According to De La Hoya, the model that Haymon has created with his Premier Boxing Champions series will ultimately harm the long term future of the sport.
"Long term, it's not going to function for boxing and the fighter. He's going to damage it. So I think what we're doing with this lawsuit, I can't speak a lot on it, but for us, boxing is long term," De La Hoya explained when asked if Al Haymon is bad for boxing. "For them, it's short term. They have a very short plan that won't benefit boxing and the boxers, so we have a legal battle that I can't talk about in detail, but I'm always going to defend boxing."
