
At the 23nd annual ESPY Awards, undefeated UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey topped boxing's pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather, to take home the Best Fighter award. The first mixed martial artist to ever win the award, Rousey also beat out undefeated middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, undefeated jr. welterweight champion Terence Crawford, and fellow UFC star Donald Cerrone.
"I can't help but really say that I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once. I'd like to see you pretend not to know who I am now," Rousey commented after receiving the award, obvioulsy taking a shot at Mayweather. The ESPY Awards is an annual ceremony that celebrates athletic performances throughout the year. Nominees for each category are voted on and chosen by fans, sportswriters, broadcasters, sports executives, and sports personalities. The winners are then selected exclusively via online fan balloting. ESPN listed the following achievement as the reason for Rousey's nomination:
Rousey defended her UFC Women's bantamweight title with record speed, defeating No. 1 contender Cat Zingano in just 14 seconds. The mark broke the UFC Championship record she'd set in her previous match, when she defeated Alexis Davis in 16 seconds.
