
Moments ago at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, unified light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev made an easy defense of his titles, dropping mandatory challenger Nadjib Mohammedi two times to score a 3rd round knockout. Kovalev comes out jabbing. Mohammedi takes a cautious stance. Kovalev jabbing upstairs and downstairs. Mohammedi misses with a wild left hook. Kovalev landing a stiff jab. They clinch. Kovalev patiently stalking behind his jab. Right hand from Kovalev has Mohammedi backing up. Mohammedi spins and steps on Kovalev's foot, causing a trip. Kovalev back up and gets back to action landing a right. Mohammedi lands a right. Big right lands for Kovalev and Mohammedi is hurt. Another right lands for Kovaelv and Mohammedi is down. He takes the count and is up at 8. Another hard right lands for Kovalev. Kovalev swarms him and Mohammedi falls to the ground. No knockdown ruled. Kovalev tries to pounce on him. 1-2 lands for Kovaelv. Overhand right lands for Kovalev. Mohammedi awkwardly jumping back and forth, but not offering much resistance. Jab lands for Kovalev. Another quick left lands for Kovalev, who appears to be toying with Mohammedi. Another big straight right lands for Kovalev followed by a left and Mohammedi is down again. That's it. It's over. Mohammedi holding his nose as though it's broken.

Also on the card, former world champion Jean Pascal won a controversial unanimous decision over Yunieski Gonzalez. Although the action was back and forth at times, most observers felt that it was Gonzalez landing the much bigger shots on Pascal, who appeared to be fading due to exhaustian. After 10 rounds of action, many assumed that it would be Gonzalez getting the wide nod on the scorecards, but instead, all three judges scored it 96-94 for Pascal.
