"He was deflated after the first round. He tried his game and it didn't work out for him. I knew that if I just pick my shots and threw them hard, he would quit or the ref would step in...I fight to finish. Martial arts was developed in war; kill or be killed...It will be a tough fight, but I believe I will stop him...It would be the last thing he ever did. I would end him; not in the sporting sense either," stated Bellator welterweight Paul Daley, who talked about his recent victory, his future plans, and much more. Check it out!
PC: Congratulations on your knockout win over Dennis Olson. You didn't seem totally happy in your post-fight interview with your performance though. Why is that?
PD: I wasn't happy he took me down, even though I got back up or reversed positions. I wanted to do more, but he kind of forced me to fight in a way I didn't plan.
PC: You were hurting him badly in the 1st round and showed great patience in setting up the finish. Talk us through what you felt was going on in there.
PD: I just knew he didn't want no more. He was deflated after the first round. He tried his game and it didn't work out for him. I knew that if I just pick my shots and threw them hard, he would quit or the ref would step in.
PC: You expected him to come out and shoot in, and it didn't take him long to do so. It appeared that you have worked very hard on remaining calm off of your back and working your way back to your feet.
PD: Yeah. My all round game is better than people think. People doubting me and talking me down actually plays better into my hands.
PC: At one point, he started to really reach with his punches and your uppercut became an important punch for you. How much did timing play a part in your attack when he became somewhat desperate to get you down?
PD: We studied him and he tends to put his head down when he throws, so the shots we trained was a jab uppercut. I caught him, but not as clean as I'd like or wanted to catch him.
PC: You had King Mo giving you advice in between rounds. I know you guys got really cool while he was in Holland. What is your relationship with Mo and can we expect to see you getting in some work with him?
PD: Mo is a cool guy. I've been cool with him since Elite XC days. I think he was fighting in Japan or for Strikeforce at the time. I know if I reach out to him, he will help.
PC: The thing I like about your style, when you hurt guys, you really go for the finish. How important is it for you to not only win fights, but entertain and be exciting?
PD: I just think, why not go for the finish if they're hurt? Why not? I fight to finish. Martial arts was developed in war; kill or be killed.
PC: Were you surprised at all at Andrey Koreshkov's dominating win over Douglas Lima?
PD: Nope, not at all. Lima has been out for a while.
PC: Obviously after your "Dynamite" kickboxing match, I'm sure Koreshkov becomes your focus. How do you see a fight between you and the new champion playing out?
PD: It will be a tough fight, but I believe I will stop him.
PC: Do you immediately go into kickboxing mode as far as training goes? How do you go from one extreme to the next?
PD: I've been training; had only a week off. I'm 5 days into my preparation for Dynamite.
PC: I gotta let you address Josh Koscheck's statement about spitting in your face the next time he saw you just to get you riled up. If by some crazy chance that would happen, how do you react to that?
PD: It would be the last thing he ever did. I would end him; not in the sporting sense either!
PC: You spoke about wanting to box under Al Haymon's banner. If you were to compete in boxing, would it be at 175, light heavyweight?
PD: I would fight at 168 pounds. Hope I can make it happen.
PC: What did you think of Ronda Rousey's call out of Floyd Mayweather after she won the ESPY for Fighter of the Year?
PD: It's Floyd. He's been great; at the top of his sport for a long time. I know he wasn't respectful to Ronda, but she shouldn't have bit back in my opinion. He's a legend, a great; the best!
PC: I look forward to seeing you back in there in September. I always appreciate your time. Best of luck to you. Is there anything else you want to add before I let you go?
PD: I'm looking for sponsors to join the team. Trust me, I will be Bellator World Champion. Come get with us!
