Keith 'One Time' Thurman was named the Premier Boxing Champions "Fighter of the Year" on Saturday, as voted on by the boxing series TV and cable partners (CBS, ESPN, NBC, Spike, FS1 and Bounce). Announced by NBC Sports on Saturday, Thurman bested his fellow PBC fighters Danny Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz, Shawn Porter and Deontay Wilder for the honor.
Thurman's exciting victory over Robert Guerrero (which featured Thurman knocking Guerrero down in the 9th Round and Thurman fighting through a large hematoma) in March on the premier PBC on NBC card and his July TKO win against Luis Collazo on ESPN in front of his hometown Tampa, Florida crowd helped Thurman earn FOTY honors.
"This year has been spectacular, opening up for two networks NBC and ESPN and we're (Team Thurman) truly looking forward to 2016. I'm happy to be champion, I look forward to defending my title for years to come," Thurman said Saturday night.
"Boxing is getting so exciting for the fans, and for people that have been tuning in, we're into the next generation and Keith "One Time" Thurman represents part of the next generation. 26-0 with 22 KO's, not afraid to fight anybody. I want to see how far I can go in the world of boxing."
