GLASSES MALONE SAYS HEAVYWEIGHTS ARE TAKING OVER AGAIN; COMPARES MAYWEATHER TO STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN

"I can remember watching it at 7-8 years old and I just kind of never fell off of it. As I got older, my passion for it grew more and more and more. It's like an addiction. It's my only other passion outside of music and driving," stated rapper Glasses Malone,  who talked about his love of boxing and shared his thoughts on a few topics. Check it out!

PC: One of my favorite west coast, MC's, I appreciate the time man. You are a big boxing fan. What got you into the fight game?

GM: My step pops. My dad is my favorite person in the world, but my step pops, my mom's husband, was really into it. I can remember watching it at 7-8 years old and I just kind of never fell off of it. As I got older, my passion for it grew more and more and more. It's like an addiction. It's my only other passion outside of music and driving.

PC: Royce Da 5'9 linked us up; he's a huge boxing fan as well. I'm sure y'all have some good debates.

GM: Actually, we don't disagree too often. Every now and again we will, but it's not too often.

PC: Do you have a new pound-for-pound #1 with Floyd Mayweather announcing his retirement or is the jury still out?

GM: It's going to be the heavyweight division. The heavyweight division is going to be the star of the show. I think the whole lighter weight class thing is about to be over and the heavyweights are going to steal the show. We getting to that era again. It's happened over and over again where you have a Sugar Ray Leonard come around. But if you look at it, we had Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Ken Norton, Joe Frazier; you had that era. And then you went to the Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Duran, Hearns and Aaron Pryor era. And then you went into the Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield era. They began stealing the show. And now, you're seeing the end of the era that was started by De La Hoya, Trinidad, Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley. Their era is ending and you watching the Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury, the end of Klitschko, Anthony Joshua take over; we definitely about to be back to heavyweight boxing. I think if we can get that Deontay Wilder/Tyson Fury fight next year, either one of those guys have a good chance of taking over the pound-for-pound title. I like both of those guys; they are superstars of the sport. I think both of them are interesting characters, they funny as hell, and they make for real good TV. They can both fight their ass off and they make for really good TV and the division has been missing that. They have great personalities.

PC: In a sense, are you, I wouldn't say glad to see the Klitschko era possibly being over, but are you glad to see guys who are more personable and that do have personality kind of back in the limelight in this division?

GM: Nah, nah, I love Klitschko. He was boring as hell even though he was whoopin ass, but his era was like Larry Holmes. When the lighter weight guys was ruling, like Sugar Ray and all of those guys I mentioned earlier, you had Larry Holmes reigning supreme in the heavyweight division, but he didn't really have a lot of named guys to fight. I think it's the same thing with Klitschko. It's the two necessary evils, I guess you would say, of boxing. I'm sad to see the champion go, but it opens up for new champions and a great era of fighters. Like I said, it's the necessary evils. I like classy fighters like Klitschko and Andre Ward, but then on the other hand, I like brash and rude fighters like Adrien Broner and Tyson Fury. I love that shit. It makes for a more well-rounded sport and well-rounded entertainment. It can't just always be in the ring. Sometimes you have to show your personality outside of the ring. I went to the press conference for Garcia-Guerrero and I love watching Angel talk. Angel was fucking great, but Rueben was turned down. He wasn't even on. He was kind of boring. But that was one of the reasons why I wanted this fight to happen, just to see Rueben and Angel talk shit because that's what builds the anticipation of the fight. Imagine Floyd without the "Money" image. Watching Floyd is like watching Stone Cold Steve Austin. You are just watching this real entertaining figure and it's just great to see how they can control emotions; they can make you hate them or love them depending on what you're looking for or what you are into. It moves you somewhere emotionally, it makes you angry, it makes you happy, it makes you mad or sad. That's what entertainment should be outside of just boxing.

PC: What moment or fight sticks out in your mind the most from this year?

GM: You know what's funny, the day they announced Pacquiao/Mayweather. Personally for me, it was like a relief. All of us boxing fans, the real boxing fans, we are a small community. That was our Super Bowl and everybody was worried that we weren't going to get it because of the politics. So for us to get our Super Bowl, even though it ended up being a blowout like it was always going to be, it was the fact that they made the Super Bowl happen and the whole world got a chance to talk about our sport and the sport that we all have passion for.

PC: You said that fight would have always been a blowout. Do you think there was any backlash being that it was our Super Bowl and for the people that was talking about our sport when they generally wouldn't feel the fight didn't live up to some sort of billing?

GM: Between that fight and PBC, boxing has never been bigger. This is getting close to when Muhammad Ali was fighting on TV. Boxing is heading back to that type of platform and that type of audience. Some people are watching other sports because they are brutal, but boxing is the sweet science. Boxing is very technical and some people like it and some people don't. I don't think there was any backlash at all. They still talking about that fight right now. They still counting the numbers from that fight right now. Even if they are bitter that no one got knocked out, you just watched the best boxer beat another top 5 pound-for-pound fighter. You got to see it. Sometimes the Super Bowl is a blowout. It don't necessarily have to be the most compelling action. Sometimes it's compelling and sometimes it's a blowout; that's just how it is in sports.
