Watch Miesha Tate defeat Holly Holm in the 5th round via submission to become the new UFC bantamweight champion.
The UFC women's bantamweight title has changed hands once again as former champion Holly Holm was choked out by Miesha Tate was just minutes left in the 5th round of their showdown. The fight was even after two. Holm controlled the first round on the feet thanks to her boxing and leg kicks, but Tate took the second round after scoring a takedown and controlling the majority of the round on the ground. In fact, Holm was fortunate to fight off several choke attempts by Tate at the end of the second round.
Despite that scare, Holm was able to take back control, again winning the next two rounds by stuffing any further takedown attempts and keeping the fight on their feet. Holm continued to do the same for the majority of the final round, but Tate wisely slipped a left hand and was able to secure another takedown. Tate quickly took her back as they scrambled and began to sink in a rear-naked choke. Holm made it to her feet and attempted to slam Tate off of her, but it was too late. The choke was deep and Tate ultimately put Holm, who did not tap, to sleep.
