PAUL DALEY: "DALEY VS. KOSCHECK 2, THEY'RE GONNA REMEMBER KOSCHECK GETTING KNOCKED OUT"

By Percy Crawford | May 03, 2016
PAUL DALEY:

"Daley vs. Koscheck 2, they're gonna remember Koscheck getting knocked out...I'm smart, man. I know what I'm doing. Everything I'm doing is for a purpose. I will be calm come fight night; sharp and ready to rock...coming to the UK to fight me is a lot to ask of an old, rich, living-in-comfort type of a guy," stated Bellator welterweight Paul Daley, who talked about his upcoming long-awaited rematch with Josh Koscheck. Check it out!

PC: Paul, I don't even have to ask your motivation heading into this rematch with Josh Koscheck. How are you feeling my man?

PD: I'm excited; really happy this fight is happening and even more so it's happening in the UK.

PC: This has to be a dream situation for you. After fighting in Koscheck's backyard, you get the opportunity to fight him in your backyard at the O2 Arena at Bellator 158.

PD: Yup, this is a real homecoming for me. I'm gonna have a lot of support. Will be good to feed off that energy.

PC: July 16th is still a little bit away. As anxious as you are for this fight, what do you feel you have to do to keep everything in perspective and not overtrain or overanalyze situations because of who your opponent is?

PD: I'm keeping things simple. I've grown a lot as a fighter and continue to grow. I'm steady right now, training every day, once a day, but gonna build up.

PC: This is beyond a fight in a sense because some will look at this and say, "Why would Daley, who is on a five-fight winning streak and on the brink of fighting for a title, be so anxious to fight a guy on a five-fight losing streak who hasn't fought in over a year?" But this is more personal than it is business for you it appears. Is that an accurate statement?

PD: It's a chance to give people a new reference point. When people think Koscheck vs. Daley, they think "cheap shot". Daley vs. Koscheck 2, they're gonna remember Koscheck getting knocked out.

PC: I have seen some serious grudges in both boxing and MMA, but you guys have carried this on for 6 years. Daniel Cormier and Jones is on the level of hatred for one another, but that's only been for a couple of years. When all is said and done on July 16th, do you think you can shake Koscheck's hand and bury it all or will this be an Ali-Frazier kind of dislike that lasts for decades?

PD: He's gotta show up first; then we will see what happens after he fight.

PC: Obviously you feel you are a much improved fighter from the May 2010 version that we saw against Kos. How do you keep your emotions in tact or do you feel you are just more mature since that incident following the first fight?

PD: I'm smart, man. I know what I'm doing. Everything I'm doing is for a purpose. I will be calm come fight night; sharp and ready to rock.

PC: You've always felt that he has avoided this rematch and already eluded to it. Are you advising Bellator to have a backup plan just in case he pulls out or are you confident that he will show up to fight in July?

PD: Yeah, I hope there is a backup plan. Coming to the UK to fight me is a lot to ask of an old, rich, living-in-comfort type of a guy.

PC: Before I let you go, I always like to get your opinion on some boxing. What are your thoughts on heavyweight Anthony Joshua? Do you feel he is the goods?

PD: He's good. I think Haye, Fury, and Wilder are gonna expose him a little, but maybe by then he's a little more seasoned.

PC: I also wanted to get your thoughts on Gennady Golovkin.

PD: He's a tough guy. I think a slick boxer beats him though; a big Mayweather.

PC: And last but not least, now that both Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather officially retired, which one, if either of them, do you see coming back first and why?

PD: Neither. I think they've done enough. They made enough. It would be sad to have them come back as old men. Be a coach!

PC: I always appreciate your time my man. Best of luck in July and we will definitely be getting some camp updates. Anything you want to say before I let you go?

PD: Thanks for the support. Keep following me. Find me on Facebook.
