"He is going to fight. I don't know what the date is. He is working with the President of the Philippines senate for an appropriate date where he can leave the Philippines for two or three weeks to prepare for the fight," stated Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, who made it clear that 8-division former world champion Manny Pacquiao will definitely return to the ring some time later this year. According to Arum, it's simply a matter of working out the schedule of the newly-elected Philippine Senator.
"He is going to have to do most of his preparation in the Philippines, you know, after he sits in the senate, so it is going to be an interesting thing, but definitely he is looking to come back and the question is how can we arrange it," Arum explained during a recent conversation with Ryan Burton of Boxingscene.com. Unfortunately, Pacquiao's opponent will not be 4-division former world champion Adrien Broner. Despite serious efforts on both sides, Broner's money demands have ruined the possibility of making the fight a reality.
"I was dealing with Al Haymon on making that fight. Al tried, but Broner was asking for crazy money that nobody can afford, so he is out and Manny is looking for another opponent," Arum added. As FightHype.com previously reported, it turns out Broner's asking price of $10 million was indeed the sticking point.
