LAMON BREWSTER EXPLAINS THE ART OF KNOCKING PEOPLE OUT:

"Your arms are just paint brushes; your body is actually the machine that generates the power to hit a guy hard. And it's the way that you turn your fist and the angle that you punch with. A lot of people still think that you punch with your whole fist. Only 2 of your knuckles are supposed to touch your opponent; index finger and middle finger. Those are the only 2 knuckles that ever need to touch a man. There has been plenty of times where I knocked people out and I didn't even have my first closed all the way, but I had those 2 knuckles balled up," stated former heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster, who explained the science behind knocking someone out. Check it out!

PC: You recently attended some Bellator MMA fights. What are your thoughts on MMA? Do you enjoy it?

LB: I like MMA because I'm a fan of martial arts. I enjoy all sports that are a form of martial arts. Boxing is a form of martial arts and I've always believed that since I was a kid. And that helped me to have the mental focus that I had when I was fighting because I knew that martial arts was the mother of boxing. Boxing is a derivative of martial arts and it's a specialization of the hands and the feet. I love MMA, I respect MMA, and I tell people all of the time, and I even told Lennox [Lewis] because he was at the fights; I said, "Man, if MMA would have been around when I was a kid, you probably would have never heard of me in the sport of boxing," because when I was growing up, it was all about just knowing how to fight. On the street, you're going to stand up, but at some point, you're going to get close to each other and you're going to wrestle and try head locks and all of that stuff. And when I was a kid, it was WWF and the DDT and all of that crap didn't work for me. I'm still mad about that. If I ever see Hulk Hogan, I might slap him like, "Man, you almost got me killed out there in the street trying to leg drop somebody (laughing)."

PC: So you think you would have tried your hand in MMA had it become popular before you were real deep in boxing?

LB: I absolutely would've because when I was growing up, I grew up in a very, very tough neighborhood. If you didn't know how to fight, man, you didn't get no respect. So if I would have known how to break a boy's arm or choke them out or something like that, you know how much respect I would get? You know what I'm saying? All of the bullies would have left me alone.

PC: You got a lot of love out there. I saw a lot of MMA fighters posting pics with you.

LB: It was really nice. They respect me for what I do and I respect them for what they do. I worked with Matt Mitrione and my specialty with MMA fighters, and the same with boxers, I don't teach people how to fight; I teach them how to knock people out. I teach people how to throw punches. There are 108 pressure points; 36 will kill you. And I've always known this my whole life, so that's why when I hit people, they normally didn't get back up. I ended a lot of careers. And it wasn't because I necessarily hit them and knocked them out, but it was because of how I hit them. I hit them with the whole force of using my body and a lot of people never understood that.

PC: When you look at MMA fighters, do you feel that that's one of the things that's lacking is the inability to throw a correct punch?

LB: That's exactly what it is, the ability to throw a correct punch and the ability to put your hips behind your punch. See, everybody thinks that having big biceps helps you punch hard, but that's not true. Your arms are just paint brushes; your body is actually the machine that generates the power to hit a guy hard. And it's the way that you turn your fist and the angle that you punch with. A lot of people still think that you punch with your whole fist. Only 2 of your knuckles are supposed to touch your opponent; index finger and middle finger. Those are the only 2 knuckles that ever need to touch a man. There has been plenty of times where I knocked people out and I didn't even have my first closed all the way, but I had those 2 knuckles balled up. I teach people because I learned through martial arts how to punch and how to throw accurate punches. We call it "breaking paper." In my mind, it's like a special technique because I remember the first time somebody showed it to me, I was laughing. I tried to hit this paper and couldn't break it. I couldn't break it, man, and once I increased my technique, it increases my speed and knockout power. When you knock a man out...the first time I knocked a man out, I was 14. I was in my gym and I was sparring with a guy that was 23 or 24 years old and I knocked him out and I never stopped.

PC: Some of the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor talk has died down a little bit now, but from a financial standpoint, great idea for Conor. I'm sure you think from a physical standpoint, not so much.

LB: Right, right, because at the end of the day, he is established as a world-renowned MMA fighter, so the only way that he could ever make the money he was trying to make and the only way he could make the most money that he can make in his entire life is to fight Floyd Mayweather. If he beat everybody in MMA, he still wouldn't make that kind of money unless he's fighting a Floyd Mayweather. So you gotta think, do I want to go down as this great mixed martial artist? Yeah, I've made some money, but at the end of the day, when you retire, that's all you have to live off of unless you want to go get a job somewhere working a 9 to 5 making somebody else's dream come true. Or do I want to take a fight with a guy like Floyd Mayweather, good, bad or indifferent, and make enough money to ensure that not just when I retire, but that my kids wouldn't have to work if that's what I want. That's when sense gotta be common. We all know in the boxing world that he's not going to beat Floyd Mayweather, but would we all pay to watch it? Yes because there has always been this rivalry of who is the best, boxing or MMA, which there shouldn't be no comparison because they are two different sports. But at the same time, we know in the MMA world, they are all going to support this guy because if he could even give Floyd a good fight or even beat Floyd, which we know wouldn't happen, especially if you a boxer, but do you understand if that was to happen what that would mean for the sport of MMA? That is the reason why people was going to get behind Conor McGregor and support him in hopes that he's successful and win that fight. It would be a mega-fight, but I think that from some of the comments Conor has made about, "Floyd needs me," I think he needs to start watching his mouth because Floyd does not need him. Floyd could fight a postman who has never thrown a punch in his life and that guy will make millions of dollars. So he needs to be humble and be quiet and say, "Listen, I want to get this fight, so let's make this fight happen."
