TEVIN FARMER: "I AM THE KING OF THE 130-POUND DIVISION...I DON'T CARE WHO I FIGHT"

By Percy Crawford | October 17, 2016
TEVIN FARMER:

"I call myself the king of the 130-pound division. That's my movement...I don't care who I fight. The goal is to stay busy and stay sharp and stay focused and move up in the rankings. I don't want to sit around and do nothing. What is that going to do? It's not going to help nothing. I'd rather stay in the ring, keep winning and staying sharp, and keep getting paid...I am the king of the 130-pound division," stated super featherweight contender Tevin Farmer, who talked about his recent win, his future plans, and more. Check it out!

PC: Congratulations on the win on Friday night. How did you feel about the performance?

TF: I give myself like a C, only because we was working on things. I didn't go out there like I did against Redkach. My trainer was like, "Go out there and showcase that you're the best," and I just dominated Redkach. The fight on Friday night, I wanted to win in spectacular fashion and easy, but I wanted to work on certain things. So I gave myself a C.

PC: That was your third fight of the year and your fourth is already scheduled. That's pretty active for a fighter today and you got 8 rounds in.

TF: It feels good. I'm staying active, my conditioning is good, and I'm staying sharp. And that's what it is with me, man, and I'm making a return on December 2nd at the 2300 Arena.

PC: Orlando Rizo definitely didn't come to lay down. He seemed like a game fighter.

TF: I already knew that going in. He was 19-7 and he is a game fighter. He wasn't going to come in there and lay down. I wouldn't even call him a journeyman. He's one of those guys that could upset you. I think if he was fighting somebody else other than me, he may have upset them.

PC: It appeared you had a packed house at the 2300 Arena.

TF: Oh yeah, I brought the city out. Shout out to all of the fighters that was on the card. The city was out there Friday night, man. They wanted to see Tevin Farmer. I hadn't fought there in a long time and when I did, I wasn't nowhere near as popular as I am today. It was crazy, man, and I'll be back in December and I'm looking to have it even more packed than it was on Friday night.

PC: You're coming right back on December 2nd. Will you take a little time off from the gym or is it right back to work?

TF: I don't know. It depends. I want to come right back, but I think the smart move would be to take 3 or 4 days off and then I'm back in the gym. After my fight, all I could think about was how ready I was to get back in the gym. I don't do nothing else. The only thing I do is train, so that's all I know. So I say 3 or 4 days, but it'll probably only be like 2 and I'll be back in the gym. And I'll be going to camp with Jason Sosa.

PC: You've had a hot year, great TV fight, and like I mentioned earlier, 4 fights this year, barring any injury. What is the goal for 2017?

TF: The good thing about my situation is now it's not me calling out for title shots. Now the fans are wanting it too. I have the fans on my side. The fans are actually saying, "Tevin Farmer deserves a title shot." Once you got the fans, you've won.

PC: I think a lot of people are starting to realize and appreciate your skill set.

TF: Yeah! I actually just heard an interview and Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson gave me a lot of credit. He was like, "Tevin Farmer, I thought that was Mark 'Too Sharp' in there," and I was like, "Damn!" That's a lot of credit, man. It's been all positive feedback from greats. That means a lot to me, man; it means a lot.

PC: How important is it for you to take the success of this year and add to that and keep it moving forward?

TF: It's really big. I think people are aware of me now. I think Lomachenko or Rigondeaux, I would be the underdog and would have to prove myself. I don't think I would come in as the underdog against a lot of these other guys. I don't have the credentials to prove it yet, but I think the fans would have me winning against any of the other guys.

PC: You've always felt you were at the top of the 130-pound division.

TF: That's my new movement. I call myself the king of the 130-pound division. That's my movement.

PC: What is the goal when you're taking all fights just to stay busy; rounds, work on things or what?

TF: I don't care who I fight. The goal is to stay busy and stay sharp and stay focused and move up in the rankings. I don't want to sit around and do nothing. What is that going to do? It's not going to help nothing. I'd rather stay in the ring, keep winning and staying sharp, and keep getting paid, whether it's a little bit of money or a lot of money; money is money. And the main thing, I'm not taking any punishment. My stay busy fights, I'm not taking any punishment and that's the great thing.

PC: Physically, how do you feel from your fight Friday night?

TF: I'm great (laughing). I'm out and about right now. I got a little bump on the top of my head, but other than that, I'm cool. It don't even feel like I fought. I fed off of the crowd in the 2300 Arena.

PC: Another great performance in the books. I look forward to seeing you back in there in December. Is there anything else you want to add before I let you go?

TF: Thank you! December 2nd at the 2300 Arena, expect a sold out show. Get your tickets and Perc, I want y'all to put it out on FightHype, I am the king of the 130-pound division!
