Moments ago at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia kep this undefeated record intact with a dominant knockout victory over Samuel Vargas. It didn't take long for Garcia to find a home for his powerful left hook, landing it early in the first round and several times after that. Garcia was also able to easily land what he believes to be his more powerful punch, a straight right hand.
It was in the second round when Garcia was able to strike with one of those right hands, landing a clearn shot that sent Vargas crashing to the canvas nearly right at the bell. Although he was able to make it back to the feet, it was clear that the end was near for Vargas. Garcia came out fast in the 3rd, landing a left hook that rocked Garcia backwards. Another left to the body followed by a looping overhand right had Vargas backing up again. Garcia continued to find a home for his big looping right hand as Vargas tried his best come forward and land his punches.
Unfortunately for Vargas, the technical skills, power, and experience of Garcia were simply too much for him to overcome. As the rounds went on, Garcia continued to break him down with big left hooks and right hands. A big flurry of punches in the 7th round prompted the referee to call a halt to the onslaught. With the win, Garcia will now set his sights on a March welterweight title unification with fellow champion Keith Thurman.
