MICKEY BEY EAGER TO GET BACK INTO THE MIX IN 2017: "I'M GOING TO DETHRONE SOMEBODY"

By Percy Crawford | December 07, 2016
MICKEY BEY EAGER TO GET BACK INTO THE MIX IN 2017:

"I'll step it up soon because I'm going to dethrone somebody, so hopefully I hear something soon...I just want to stay healthy and get big fights and have fun doing it without shackles and spite involved...I just want everyone to look out for when I have a fight date; tune in, I'll be well prepared to fight whoever," stated former world champion Mickey Bey, who talked about his future plans and much more. Check it out!

PC: Mick, what's up, man? How you been?

MB: I been good; just living life.

PC: The last time we spoke, you opened up a little bit about being on the "ungratefuls" list. Has anything changed since then? Any conversation with Mayweather Promotions?

MB: I'm being patient, so hopefully good comes out of the situation.

PC: The last thing on this subject and then we'll move on; I'm not sure if you had a chance to read Ishe Smith's reply to your interview. If you did check it out, what are your thoughts on what was said?

MB: Briefly, but people told me about it that read it. To me, it's pointless because my situation and his are completely different and that's all to it. I recited facts on situations that happened, but hopefully that's the past and instead of everybody going to the internet, I think a sitdown is better if someone has a problem.

PC: Moving forward, as far as your career, what would you like to do next? Obviously getting back in the ring early next year, I would imagine, would be the goal.

MB: Yeah, getting in there for sure, and it will be at the best I have ever been and the most prepared.

PC: If I would have told you back in 2005 when you turned pro that in 2016 headed into 2017, you would only have 25 fights under your belt, what would have been your response?

MB: Maybe I would have thought a few more would be cool, but I always wanted to get to the competition anyway, so you can't fight as much at a certain level. All the layoffs suck, but on the flip side, my body is preserved and still fresh and I'll be at my best when I get back on track.

PC: I know you believe in faith and you have a strong belief in your faith. At this point, it has to be a frustrating process for you?

MB: I'm super deep from a 3rd world ghetto in the east side of Cleveland, so that prepared me for anything. So I always see positive in things; even when it's a storm, it has to end sooner or later and I will prevail no matter what. Nothing will make me tap out.

PC: Are you consistently in the gym or just doing some shaking out and running from time to time right now?

MB: Just shaking out a little and running a couple days a week, but I'll step it up soon because I'm going to dethrone somebody, so hopefully I hear something soon.

PC: What would be ideal for your moving forward? What would be your perfect case scenario?

MB: Really, I just want to stay healthy and get big fights and have fun doing it without shackles and spite involved.

PC: I wanted to get your thoughts on a few things happening in boxing. What did you think of the Ward-Kovalev decision and the fight itself?

MB: I was very happy for my brother Andre Ward becoming pound-for-pound. It's well-deserved. He fought a lot of competition and he got off the canvas and won more rounds than Kovalev and I would love to see a rematch. I think it will be even better because Kovalev is a beast. I give him full props. Most people in boxing now are scared to fight the best and find a million excuses not to fight one another and that sucks for the fans and anybody else connected to boxing. I got a positive theory on that, but maybe we can speak about that soon.

PC: When you see people legitimately talk like Conor McGregor could compete with Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match, what are your thoughts on that?

MB: Whoever says that just obviously has personal issues with Floyd because that guy wouldn't beat a good 15-year-old amateur boxer. And honestly to me, he mimics Floyd a lot as far as his persona from what I saw of him.

PC: I wish you the best of luck my man and I hope to see you back in there early next year. Is there anything else you would like to add before I let you go?

MB: Thank you, I appreciate that. I just want everyone to look out for when I have a fight date; tune in, I'll be well prepared to fight whoever.
