KYRONE DAVIS DISCUSSES MARCOS HERNANDEZ CLASH:

"Me at my best is a problem for anybody that steps in the ring with me. It's a lot of things you have to go through to beat me when I'm at my best...I don't care about who you think you are, I'm going to show you who I am. That's how I'm going into this fight. I have no fear, I have no picks; it's going to be a really fun fight for boxing fans to watch. It's going to be violent, but it's going to be a fun fight to watch," stated jr. middleweight Kyrone Davis, who talked about his upcoming clash with Marcos Hernandez. Check it out!

PC: Tuesday night on FS1 against Marcos Hernandez. I spoke with him and he said although you are a good fighter, he feels there is nothing you do better than him. How do you view Marcos as an opponent?

KD: I think that he's motivated. His team did a great job at getting him to 9-0. I think he knows it's going to be a challenge. For me, I'm not really worried about what he does well or what he thinks I don't do well. Those things don't really concern me and me at my best is a problem for anybody that steps in the ring with me. It's a lot of things you have to go through to beat me when I'm at my best.

PC: How has your preparation been for this fight?

KD: It's been great! We changed a bunch of things from when I lost the Castillo fight, which in my eyes, when I watch the fight again, I think I won. A lot of people think I won. It was a close fight, so you can't really cry over spilled milk. We changed my diet. I went down to 154 because my last fight was at 157 catchweight. We are fighting at 154 now, so I changed my diet up. I take everything more serious now. I'm more disciplined. My last fight, when I fought Carlos Ozan, who was 12-1 at the time, I stopped him in the 3rd round. Any other preparation for a fight before the Castillo fight, that guy would have gone to a decision with me. The reason why he couldn't go to a decision with me now is because I learned a lot from the mistakes I made in that fight. Not that I didn't perform well, but mentally I wasn't where I needed to be as a grown man. I was more like a boy fighting and with all of these skills and talent that I have, I wasn't using it the right way. It took me some time looking in the mirror and really understanding myself and understanding what I do really well. And with that being said, in preparation, we trained pretty hard, but the mental aspect of it and the way I'm going into this fight is going to make a huge difference. I feel like he is going to have a hard time adjusting to how sturdy I am and how forceful I will be. I don't think he's ever been in the ring with somebody who was as sturdy as me and as compact.

PC: When a fighter deals with adversity, they either grow from it or it destroys them. You never want to lose, but I like when I hear a fighter say they made the necessary changes because when you win, no matter how you performed, you don't take that look in the mirror.

KD: Exactly! I don't think what happened inside of the fight changed me, the result of the fight changed me; actually losing. I hadn't lost in a long time. Amateur, I didn't lose the whole 2013, so I hadn't lost in a long time. Then to lose is not a wake up call, but it definitely opens your eyes that the people that you thought was on your side wasn't and the way things went down and who you can trust and things like that. I don't know how he [Hernandez] takes boxing, but I take boxing very personal. It's something I've been doing for a very long time. I don't like to lose. I don't like not performing well, even in a win. So my new thing is it's heartbreak. I'm in love with fighting, so I take it like a relationship. I'm in love with it, so when I lost, it was heartbreaking. My heart was broke and I cried and I wasn't sure of myself and I had to go through a lot of stages to where I could even get back in the gym. I take it very seriously. When I got back to a place where I could get back in the gym, I told everybody that now I have to break everybody else's heart. That's how I'm thinking. I'm breaking everybody else's heart. I don't care about what your record is, I don't care about who you fought, I don't care about who you think you are, I'm going to show you who I am. That's how I'm going into this fight. I have no fear, I have no picks; it's going to be a really fun fight for boxing fans to watch. It's going to be violent, but it's going to be a fun fight to watch.

PC: What have you learned the most about Kyrone Davis over the course of your 12-fight career?

KD: I think the thing I learned the most is that you have to be in the moment. You have to fight to win and not fight not to lose. In the Castillo fight and in all of my fights before that fight, which is why I think my knockout ratio was down, I was dominating guys and not losing rounds, but I was fighting not to lose. And I'm so talented that I can do that. "Oh, that's my point here. I got that point there. I'm up on the scorecards." I can do that. I can fight not to lose, but when you want to be great, you gotta fight to win. That means leaving it out there and showing who you are when you're in that ring and that's the biggest thing I had to learn. Forget about the points. Score of course, but not to score just to score; score to inflict damage and break fighters down and get to different places in the fight where you're controlling the pace of the whole fight and not just fighting and thinking about if you're up and what round are you in.

PC: I call that fighting for 10-9 rounds or fighting to win 7 rounds.

KD: You feel what I'm saying. I'm not calculating anymore. I'm not trying to be a commentator inside of the ring. I feel like that's what I was doing. I was like, "Okay, I know I'm up in this half of the round," and just overthinking it. You can ask anybody. Anybody I have sparred have problems with me. I know my talent and my skills. I know how I can compete. If I was fighting the way I have been sparring, I would be in line for a title shot already. It's making that transfer from the gym to the lights and I think I did that in my last fight. I felt so comfortable in my last fight and so composed. You know how you can get tired in a fight because it's so much going on and the fight is moving faster than it does in the gym, so you get tired. It wasn't like that. It was like I was in the gym and it was just me and Steve [Edwards] and we were just executing a game plan. When I dropped him in the 1st round, I wasn't rushing anything. I went to the body and to the head, I was mixing my punches up, I was looking for openings and using my ring smarts and being aggressive. I wasn't worried about what he was throwing back. I'm always defensively aware, but if he lands something, not overreacting. I was just letting the fight come to me and not overthinking situations during the fight. I could overthink all day in the gym because nothing means nothing in the gym. It's basically learning, but it's that taking it from the gym to the lights that makes the difference. I'm so excited, I could have fought this fight a week ago.

PC: Davis-Hernandez, I think this is going to be an excellent fight and I look forward to it. Best of luck and we will speak afterwards. Is there anything else you want to add?

KD: I want to thank everybody who is supporting me; Team Shut It Down! I want to thank Al Haymon for giving me this opportunity; Fox Sports 1-PBC platform. I'm ready to put on a great performance.
