ADRIAN GRANADOS PICKS ADRIEN BRONER TO DEFEAT MIKEY GARCIA; DESCRIBES HIS ABILITY TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS

"I’m actually picking him against Mikey. Everybody siding with Mikey, but I’ve never seen Mikey Garcia in with somebody with good boxing skills and speed and power. However, it is a very close fight either way. Mikey is a very tremendous talent and I wouldn’t be surprised if he does win, but I’m going to side with Adrien Broner in that fight," stated jr. welterweight contender Adrian Granados, who shared his thoughts on the upcoming Broner vs. Garcia clash, his own future plans, and much more. Check it out!

PC: It’s been awhile since we have heard from you. What’s up with you?

AG: Yeah man, I’ve been good, you know. I’m just cooling out and staying in the gym. There has been a couple of fights that almost happened, but everybody just giving me the excuse that I’m high risk and low reward and not really trying to fight me.

PC: I was going to say sometimes when you perform the way you did against Adrien Broner, it could actually hurt your stock instead of help it like you would hope for.

AG: Right! I was hoping I would gain some popularity, which I did, but it’s like you said; they know now that I’m still dangerous, even at 147. People really ain’t giving me the opportunity because they are afraid I’m going to come up on somebody.

PC: Is the goal to go back down to 140, or given the right opportunity, welterweight would still be on option?

AG: If the fight made sense, I would. My plan is to fight at 140.

PC: A lot of things changed during the course of fighting Adrien Broner. The weight changed multiple times, you wanted 12 rounds and obviously that got shut down, you got on the scale and it said you were over the limit, and then the scale was changed out, and then obviously the close decision loss. That’s a lot to deal with. Did that make you mentally tougher moving forward, because you will probably never ever have to deal with so many circumstances again during your career?

AG: Yeah! I thought that was all bogus. I think I heard from somebody in the camp that they said, “A little gamesmanship,” but that’s just not right. Let’s be professional. You guys tried to embarrass me in front of everybody and it just really pissed me off more than anything.

PC: Adrien Broner is now lined up to fight Mikey Garcia. You have been in there with AB. How do you see that fight playing out and does he make 140 in your opinion?

AG: I do think he can make 140. I think he could have made 142 in our fight, but from my understanding, he got sick during camp and that’s kind of what blew him up. I’m actually picking him against Mikey. Everybody siding with Mikey, but I’ve never seen Mikey Garcia in with somebody with good boxing skills and speed and power. However, it is a very close fight either way. Mikey is a very tremendous talent and I wouldn’t be surprised if he does win, but I’m going to side with Adrien Broner in that fight.

PC: What were your takeaways from being in there with Broner?

AG: He was what I expected. If anything, I was more disappointed with my performance. It wasn’t my best performance. I didn’t feel as sharp as I usually am. My conditioning somehow fell off and usually that’s my advantage over everybody and I kind of died down there. I was upset about that. But Adrien made some good adjustments. He was having some trouble with my boxing skills and then he had to turn to his boxing skills. He made some good angle movements and lateral movements that kind of threw me off while I was coming forward. He did a good job in making those corrections, although I still think I did enough to win.

PC: Did that fight assure you that you belong at this level? Not saying you didn’t think you belonged prior to it, but experiencing it, did it give you that extra confidence that you belong?

AG: Yeah, that’s exactly what it is. It’s a confidence booster and we’re looking for fights right now. There are a couple of things we are trying to work out. I’m just staying ready really. I always knew I belonged; I’m just glad I got the opportunity and I’m glad people realize it. I’ve gotten a lot of love. Everybody that sees me in the streets are like, ‘Hey, man, you won that fight.” It’s cool, but it’s frustrating because that’s kind of the story with all of my losses.

PC: Are there any names in particular that you are looking to face at 140 or just anyone with a good ranking?

AG: Nobody in particular. I’ll fight anybody that will lead me to a world title. I know Julius Indongo and Terence Crawford are going to have a unification bout; I would definitely like any of those guys. But anybody that can lead me that way. I’d like an eliminator bout with anybody to get my opportunity to fight. I think I deserve an eliminator match. I’m not even paying attention to rankings anymore. The WBC had me ranked #11 and got the guy I stopped ranked #1. That makes no sense to me. So I’m not paying attention to rankings. Just give me a shot against anybody that can get me to a #1 contender spot and we can go from there.

PC: Coming off of a great performance and effort against Adrien Broner, how frustrating has this process been for you?

AG: It’s been tough. I’ve had some big names that were brought up to me and I accepted, but it’s been the other side. It’s always been the same excuse: high risk, low reward. It’s just been frustrating. It’s kind of cool knowing you’re being ducked (laughing), but at the same time, it’s like ya boy need a check.

PC: It’s great catching up with you. I hope something happens for you soon; keep me posted. Is there anything else you want to add before I let you go?

AG: Yeah, I’m not dead; I’m not down and out. I’ll be back better than ever. The Adrien Broner fight was probably 70-75 percent of Adrian Granados and I will be a lot better in the future.
