Moments ago at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York, undefeated welterweight champion Terence Crawford made another successful defense of his WBO title, dropping game contender Egidijus Kavaliauskas three times to score a 9th round stoppage. To his credit, Kavaliauskas showed up with a game plan, waiting patiently for opportunities to exchange with the champion. One of those opportunities came early when he was able to land a flush right hand that appeared to rock Crawford.
Crawford, however, wasted no time to retaliate and decided to walk the challenger down to land his own heavy punches. Although Kavaliauskas would find some success getting his punches through, it was Crawford he was landing the more telling shots that were doing the heavier damage. By the middle rounds, it was clear that Crawford was in full control and he was able to drop Kavaliauskas for the first time of the fight in the 7th round. Though Kavaliauskas survived the follow-up attack, it was only a matter of time before Crawford was able to close the show in the 9th, dropping him two more times to earn the TKO victory.
