Whether they love him or hate him, an overwhelming number of fans agree with undefeated pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather. During a recent update on his official Twitter page, Mayweather shared his thoughts on episode 2 of "24/7: Mayweather/Ortiz", revealing that he's not happy about the direction that HBO has taken with the latest installment. "I was very unhappy with the second episode of 24/7. HBO needs a new editor. The network does not show the real entertainment," he would comment. "We are tired of Victor Ortiz story about his struggles. Its Boring now. Blacks go through life struggles all the time and always RISE."
It's unclear as to exactly what Mayweather means by "real entertainment", however, he could be referring to sparring footage of himself and close friend, rapper 50 Cent, who hinted that HBO would be the showing the footage when he tweeted, "Yo I can't wait to see 24/7 tonight on HBO 10pm ET/PT watch me and Floyd spar," prior to the premiere episode. Thus far, HBO has yet to air the footage, choosing instead to highlight the internal struggles of the Mayweather family and the hardships that Victor Ortiz dealt with as a child, a story that Mayweather, in particular, has grown tired of hearing.
Evidently, he's not the only one, as a number of fans have voiced their opinion, via twitter and email, hoping that HBO takes a new direction in the final two episodes of the series. Check out just a sampling of several emails that I received regarding the matter, and feel free to send me your own thoughts and comments at bthompson@fighthype.com.
- I feel like we all have our own personal struggles so what makes him any more special. I never even met my father and I don't go around broadcasting it to every person I meet. Victor ortiz is a great fighter but I feel he's also a great whiner. 24/7 needs to focus more on what the fights gonna be like and what happens if their is an upset. Personally I feel Ortiz is underestimating Mayweather and is gonna get taught a lesson. He's also listening to Oscar who lost and is mad that everyone he puts in front of Mayweather looks like a amatuer. Good luck to both fighters. - Dwight Arnold
- Everybody n life has problems I want to c maywwather get out of bed n the morning his three workouts in oneday more training parts like it is about boxing more about the fight - Lakeysha Williams
- I feel that Floyd is right. We have all read and heard about Victor Ortiz beginning and struggle. It's time HBO focus on more boxing. - Melo
- First and foremost I would like to see more of Floyds fiancé Ms Jackson , if Floyd is worried about ratings maybe he should show a few clips of his sparring sessions. Instead of stacks of cash won from gambling. Alot of people I've talked to are more interested in seeing him get his first loss , show his last amatuer defeat! - David Rivera
- Let floyd know that we agree about ortiz past being placed under the spotlight is getting old, but floyd talking and talking about money is also getting old and very "predictable"..they both need to step up their game..their r 2 sides to every token.. - Albert Alvarez
- They show too much of ortiz. He is boring to watch. Mayweather is the star and should be shown more. I'm mad that hbo didn't show enough of miss jackson. She is so pretty. - Jorge from brooklyn
- It's a great story, but i am tired or hearing it. We have heard this story about Victor every time he fights on Hbo. I'm sure there are other qualities they can air about Victor. Floyd has already proven to be a idiot, it has nothing to do about "blacks" or hispanics. - Phillip Muniz
- I do agree with the article Ben, it seems too much time is being put into victor's past but the boxing facts are not being brought up. It doesn't even appear that his team even has a game plan to beat floyd mayweather. As a fight fan who is going to be there in 2 weeks, they must pick up the pace episode 2 was good because floyd started it great with 50 and even afterwards roger was very entertaining with his anger management talk but when ortiz's time came around it was "poor" victor time and I knew I had atleast 2-3 min to make a drink and get a snack lol. Give me a shout on fight hype! - Calvin (Alaska fighthype fan)
- No its not boring, its mayweather who is boring, tired of listening to his bad wide mouth, self proclaim, great back up by fighthype, hes lucky to have fighthype in his back all the way. - Richard Ricarte
- Mayweather is absolutely right. Ortiz' tale quickly became redundant after one episode. His corny ardor in talking about his past is boring to watch, and uncomfortable to listen to. Ortiz' sucking up to Oscar was also a really silly thing to do, and was vaguely homosexual. However, I disagree with Mayweather that Ortiz' story isn't somehow unique. Not all abandoned children -- be they white, black, latino, etc -- "rise" as Mayweather claims. - Andrew Fields
- At the end of the day, only thing people really wanna see is the Fight.. simple as that. - David S.
- We all got our moments in life wen somethin get us down. We battle bacc or crumble. But a documentary concernin a fight shouldn't focus only on a life struggle. It should focus on tha task at hand. I admire Ortiz triumphs, but if that's all they got for his story, I'll wait till tha ppv. - J.A.
- Tired of this Ortiz shit. change this shit up or you lose one more viewer! - Lauren Kirk
