After hearing several rumors that James Toney was penciled in to face cruiserweight Denis Lebedev on November 5th in Russia, FightHype.com reached out to the future Hall of Famer to see if he could shed some light on the situation. "Man, you tell me what's going on. I don't know nothing about fighting Lebedev in Russia. I heard Ivaylo started the rumor, but I haven't seen anything or heard any figures," stated Toney, sounding unsure if the proposed bout will actually take place despite the fact that the popular boxrec.com already has it listed as though it's confirmed. That being said, Toney is definitely not against the idea of traveling overseas to face the last man to knockout Roy Jones Jr. "I'm not Roy Jones Jr. I would kill Lebedev, but as of now, I don't know if I'm fighting him," Toney emphasized. "Roy damn near got him out of there, so whoopin' his ass wouldn't be a problem, but I need to see how much money is being offered, especially to go to Moscow."
As previously stated, Lebedev is coming off of the biggest win of his career, a 10th-round knockout of the once unbeateable Roy Jones Jr. with only 2 seconds remaining in the fight back in May. Toney, on the other hand, is coming off of a lopsided 10-round unanimous decision win over Damon Reed back in February when he weighed in at a career-high 257 pounds. The good news is that Toney recently made headlines in a positive way when a picture of him surfaced on the internet depicting an extremely in-shape "Lights Out". In an interview with FightHype.com shortly after the picture surfaced, Toney revealed that, at the time, he was weighing roughly 215 pounds and suggested he would have no trouble making the cruiserweight limit. Stay tuned to FightHype.com as this situation unfolds.
