In the latest episode of "24/7 Mayweather/Ortiz", Danny Garcia, world-class trainer of WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, suggested that Floyd Mayweather is a dirty fighter, pointing out that the undefeated pound-for-pound champion intentionally uses his elbows to inflict damage on his opponents. "He's dirty...they never take a point off of him," Garcia commented while watching footage of Mayweather's victory over then-undefeated Ricky Hatton. "What is the most dangerous thing about Mayweather? His elbow."
Ironically, immediately after that fight, several fans of Ricky Hatton would raise similar accusations regarding Mayweather, suggesting that referee Joe Cortez allowed Mayweather to get away with a number of infractions that potentially altered the outcome of the bout. Of course, what some call dirty, others call "veteran tactics", as Hatton himself gave Mayweather credit for the techniques he used while fighting on the inside. "He's better inside than I thought, with all the elbows and shoulders and forearms he used," Hatton remarked shortly after suffering the first loss of his career.
Ortiz's brother, who was also watching the footage with Garcia, noted that Mayweather continued to blatantly use his elbows right in front of the referee, despite being warned several times of his actions. Considering that the exact same referee, Joe Cortez, has been tapped to work Saturday's bout between Mayweather and Ortiz, you can bet that Team Ortiz will have a long talk with him during the pre-fight instructions regarding the tactics.
Nevertheless, Garcia remains confident that Mayweather is no match for Ortiz. "What is the most dangerous things about Victor? Everything," he added. "I know that Victor's going to beat him. Victor's going to give him his first loss."
