ADRIEN BRONER: "I WANT THEM TO COME UP...NONE OF THESE GUYS CAN BEAT ME"

By Jon Reynoso | October 03, 2011
ADRIEN BRONER:

"If they want to come up, let them come up. I want them to come up. Right now, at 130, I have nobody to fight. Come on! I came in and I fought Ponce de Leon and Jason Litzau. Other than those two, who is out there that is really known? Who's on HBO? Who'ʼs at 130 that's a good fight for me right now? I mean, if I fight Rocky Juarez, they're gonna say he is over the hill. I donʼ't know who's at 130 that I can fight and get my credit. Some people look at me as a loud talking, young, cocky guy. That's not me. I'm just confident and I know what I can do. I feel none of these guys can beat me. I don'ʼt care if I'm at 130, 135, or wherever I go. I know that they get inside those four corners, they are not gonna beat me," stated undefeated super featherweight Adrien Broner as he talked about his upcoming November 26 return to the ring and much more. Check it out!

JR: I know you got to let the world know about some things. Speak your mind champ.

AB: Man, you know, it's a lot of fighters out here that are okay fighters, and then you got elite fighters, but the way the boxing world is now, they donʼt give credit where it's due. I came in the game straight out fighting top ranked fighters. I didn'ʼt pick and choose. It was my time to fight them and I fought them. For example, I came in and I fought Ponce de Leon. Man, I'm young and I'm staying focused. I probably didn'ʼt give people what they wanted to see, but stayed determined and got the victory. Then I went and fought Jason Litzau and got him out of there. After those two fights, I still haven'ʼt got the credit that I really deserve. Like now, there are a lot of fighters calling me out, but when it's time to sign the contract, they don'ʼt sign the contract. I donʼ't know what's going on, man. I don'ʼt know if it's because I'm not Mexican. I don'ʼt have anything against Mexican fighters, but it's just that in the boxing game, it seems like you have to be hispanic to really get the recognition you deserve. For us African Americans, it's hard to get that recognition and credit. But, I'mʼa keep working hard to keep knockʼin' these guys off, and we're gonna make our way to the top.

JR: I know you have a fight coming up. Talk about that.

AB: Definitely! November 26! I was scheduled to have a mandatory with Ricky Burns. You know, he was a champion, and I'm the number one contender, but Ricky said that he couldn't make anymore. I really don't want to get into it, but I feel they were still building him up. Coming into a fight with me, I really felt I was gonna destroy that guy. I respect him because he is doing good for his career, and I want to see him do good, but if he would have fought me on November 26, man, it would have been an ugly night for him; ugly like Sam Cassell (laughing).

JR: I know your at 130 pounds, but there is a lot of talk about Yuriorkis Gamboa and Juan Manuel Lopez moving up to 130 pounds. what are your thoughts on that?

AB: Listen, if those guys want to come up...for one, they're already about 30 years old. We just gonna put that in the air. I'm not worried about those guys. If they want to come up, let them come up. I know that they get inside those four corners, they are not gonna beat me.

JR: I see that you bring a lot of swagger to the ring. Where does that style, swagger, and confidence come from?

AB: It came from where I come from. That's what I was around when I was a kid. My amateur career was tremendous, even though I didn'ʼt get to maximize my amateur career like I should have, but growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, sometimes you fall off. But I found my way back to the sport. I love what I do, I'm dedicated, and I'm focused. Growing up, I was around Ricardo Williams, fresh out of the Olympics. He was one of the slickest fighters I have ever seen. Rauʼ'shee Warren is another guy who is like a big brother to me. I knew him ever since I was six years old. I remember when I was six years old in the gym, they put me up against another six year old and I beat him up. Then they put me up against a new kid called Nuke. I'm like, "Who is Nuke?" They put us against each other and he beat me up and made me cry. Ever since then, I just stayed in the gym and worked hard every time. I donʼ't call my style cocky; I just swag out.

JR: You're 22 years old. Where do you see yourself in few years?

AB: Well, I'll be a champion November 26, most definitely. There is no question or doubt in my mind. November 26, I will be the WBO champion. So two years down the line, I'm going to unify the division, then eventually, move up and give the lightweights hell. look at my record. I fought at 130 and 135. It donʼ't matter. I'm still going to have the speed, I'm still gonna have the pop. I can make weight easy. Even though I'm making 130 pounds comfortable, if I move up to 135 pounds, I'll have more power, the speed will still be there, and I'm going to give those guys problems.

JR: Do you think 135 is your limit, or do you think you can go up to 140?

AB: Well, I can move up to 140 because I'm still growing. Ultimately, I see myself ending my career at 147 pounds. Man, it don'ʼt matter the weight. We are going to stay undefeated. Nobody beating me. These guys are not gonna beat me.

JR: For any of the fighters, fans, or promoters reading this interview, do you have a message that you want to send out?

AB: Listen, it's no disrespect to the fans, promoters, or fighters. This is me. I want everybody to love me for being me. You gotta understand where I come from. I love my fans. I love the support I get. I want people to follow "The Problem".
