Former jr. welterweight champion Devon Alexander is not only moving up in weight, but he is moving up in social status. FightHype.com has been informed that Alexander, along with his manager and trainer, Kevin Cunningham, have been invited to a fundraiser in support of President Barack Obama's political campaign at the Renaissance Hotel in Downtown St. Louis tonight.
Alexander got the call early Tuesday afternoon that he was a special guest at the VIP area. "I feel great. A kid from the slums to meeting the President. I'm excited. Words can't describe what this means. I'm very blessed right now and very thankful," Alexander commented, attributing this opportunity to the hard work he has put in since he was young. "I'm staying humble because this is not automatic. I wanna thank my team and everyone for helping me get to this point because this has been done through a lot of hard work."
Kevin Cunningham is equally excited for the former champion. "Devon was invited to the VIP reception to meet the president, so Manny Pacquiao isn't the only fighter to get to meet President Obama," Cunningham remarked, citing Devon's image in the community as a big reason for this opportunity. "It's a testament to the support Devon has in St. Louis for him to get a personal invite to meet the president for the political powers that be to allow Devon to be in this position to represent St. Louis."
The VIP reception takes place after the fundraiser Tuesday night in Downtown St. Louis.
