"I don't know what Nacho's claim to fame is other than Juan Manuel, who's going to get a real a-- whoopin' from Pacquiao," commented promoter Gary Shaw when asked to share his prediction on this Saturday's clash between pound-for-pound champion Manny Pacquiao and lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. Speaking to FightHype's own Ben Thompson, Shaw praised Pacquiao while discussing this past Saturday's barnburner between James Kirkland and Alfredo Angulo, two fighters that he once promoted. It's a fight that Angulo appeared to be on the verge of winning just 30 seconds into the first round when he floored Kirkland with a devastating right hand. Upon going in for the kill, Angulo unleashed a non-stop flurry of punches, but after more than a minute had gone by, Kirkland was still standing, while Angulo appeared to have punched himself out. It's the kind of mistake that Shaw believes a fighter of Manny Pacquiao's caliber would never make.
"No professional fighter at that level should shoot an entire load in one round to where you're done for the rest of the fight," he explained. "Pacquiao throws a lot of punches, a lot, and he's not done." Indeed, Pacquiao does throw a lot of punches, but the difference between he and Angulo is that he places those punches using pinpoint accuracy without wasting the type of energy that will leave him exhausted if his shots are blocked. It's a mistake that you can rest assured he will not make come Saturday night should he get Marquez in the type of trouble that Kirkland was in.
"I think he's going to get an ass whoopin'. You can quote me on that. It's going to be an ol' fashioned ass whoopin' by Manny," Shaw added, making it clear that Alfredo Angulo won't be the only Nacho Beristain trained fighter who will get a beatdown this month.
