ROBERT GUERRERO: "I'M EXCITED THAT IT'S DOWN TO ME AND CANELO...MAYWEATHER IS TOO MUCH FOR MANNY"

By Mike Juhas | January 10, 2012
ROBERT GUERRERO:

"I'm excited that it's down to me and Canelo. No disrespect to Canelo, but I'm a multi-division world champion. He's been champion at one weight class. I'm excited and I can't wait. If it comes down to it, I'm going to beat Floyd Mayweather. Canelo is a good fighter and he's young, but I've been a champion multiple times and doing this a long time. I think Floyd and I getting in the ring would be a huge fight. I'm pumped about it and I can't wait. I'm coming to fight...I think after Pacquiao's last fight with Marquez, he should fight him again. I really felt Marquez won that fight, and a lot of people feel the same. I think they should do it again and I don't think he's ready for Floyd. Floyd Mayweather is too much for Manny," stated three-division world champion Robert Guerrero, who shared his thoughts on a potential opportunity to face Floyd Mayweather on May 5 and who he thinks Manny Pacquiao should face in June. Check it out!

MJ: There's been plenty of news recently with Floyd Mayweather's sentence getting postponed. They're saying that Floyd's next fight is possibly down to you and Canelo Alvarez. Tell us what you know.

RG: I'm excited that it's down to me and Canelo. I'm coming to fight.

MJ: Do you have any more information for us about how this is going to be decided besides what we've already read?

RG: No, I don't. I wish I knew more. Everything is up in the air, but I know it's down to me and Canelo. I'm pumped. Floyd is a multi-division champion and I'm a mutli-division champion. I'll come into this at 147; there will be no catchweight. I'm one of those throwback-style of fighters who wants to fight the best. Floyd Mayweather is supposed to be the pound-for-pound best. I'm coming in, with no stipulations, to 147 or whatever weight he wants to fight. All I'm worried about is getting in the ring and making it happen. Like I've said, to be the best and pound-for-pound number one in the world, you have to beat the best and do it where they're at.

MJ: I was kind of surprised to hear Canelo is being seriously considered this early in his career. It seems soon for his handlers to want to put him in a fight with Mayweather.

RG: Yeah, he's a young fighter and I'd be surprised if they do put him in now. It kind of reminds me of Fernando Vargas; hot on the trail and gets in with Trinidad when he wasn't ready. It really hurt his career; he never came back the same. That's the way I'd see Canelo with Floyd. He has a lot of time and I see him needing more experience. He's still developing, but when the time is right, he'll be there.

MJ: What do you think about Bob Arum pretty much blocking Manny Pacquiao's opportunity for fighting Floyd on May 5?

RG: I think after Pacquiao's last fight with Marquez, he should fight him again. I really felt Marquez won that fight, and a lot of people feel the same. I think they should do it again and I don't think he's ready for Floyd. Floyd Mayweather is too much for Manny.

MJ: When would you start camp for this fight if you were to get it?

RG: I'm training right now. I'd make it a good two-month long camp and prepare. I've been studying Floyd for a long time and mentally, I have it down. I've been doing all the film work; I have the game plan down and I'm ready to go. I'm just waiting to hear if I get the fight. As soon as I hear it's Guerrero, it's rock and roll time.

MJ: What's your plan for making sure you're the guy that is picked?

RG: Talking to you and everybody else. We're going to make it happen. I'm a multi-division champion. Look at my accomplishments inside of the ring and my story outside of the ring. It's going to be a huge fight once 24/7 gets hold of it. It would make the perfect storyline.

MJ: Is there anything else you'd like to say to the FightHype.com fans?

RG: We're excited and when I meet Floyd Mayweather on May 5, I'm going to shock the world.
