According to multiple reports, former welterweight champion Andre Berto suffered a ruptured bicep while training for his upcoming rematch with fellow former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz. Evidently, the injury was so severe that it required immediate surgery, forcing him to pull out of the fight. "Surgery is a serious injury," Victor Conte would post on his official Twitter page as the news broke. Conte has been working with Berto in preparation for the bout.
According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, it's too late to find a suitable replacement for Berto, so the entire will be cancelled. It's unclear at this point if the fight will be postponed for a period of time or if Ortiz will look to move forward and face a different opponent altogether at a later date.
