FLOYD MAYWEATHER: "WE WERE SET ON PACQUIAO...THEY DON'T REALLY WANT TO FIGHT"

FLOYD MAYWEATHER:

Earlier today, undefeated pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather was on hand at the offices of Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas to present a check for $50,000 in support of their Blitz Build project, which starts on June 4. Pledging a total of $100,000 to the organization, Mayweather will be the Lead Sponsor for the project. Although he was there to give back to his community, Mayweather could not avoid questions about his boxing career and his scheduled May 5 return to the ring. "We were set on Pacquiao. It's a joke. They don't really want to fight," he commented when asked about talks of him facing 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao on the date.

"I have proof. He's a 7 million dollar fighter, at most 10 million. I offered him 40 million. Bob Arum said something about a guarantee, I offered Pacquiao 40 million," Mayweather explained, confirming reports made by Pacquiao that the offer was made during their brief conversation on the phone. "A lot of things being said is not true. Proof is he's not making 40 to 50 million like Arum is saying," he continued. While it's clear that Mayweather will not be facing Pacquiao on May 5, the question is, who will he be facing. According to him, he still hasn't made a final decision on who the opponent will be, but that will be the date regardless.

One person it won't be, however, is former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, who is once again lobbying for a rematch now that his February 11th clash with Andre Berto has been cancelled due to Berto's injury. When someone asked if he'd consider Victor Ortiz for May 5, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe answered with an emphatic, "No!" Floyd agreed and said it won't happen in May, but maybe it could be reevaluated after he gets some more wins under his belt again. Floyd also shared his thoughts Amir Khan and his recent performance in his loss to Lamont Peterson. "I don't know too much about Amir Khan," he commented, "I think he does too much running and holding. I honestly feel he should have got disqualified."

As for these weekend's big clash, Mayweather surprisingly did not have a prediction for the Super Bowl, despite the fact that he's known to place big bets on football. When asked for his pick, Floyd simply said he normally likes Brady, but because Brady doesn't have his main guy in Gronkowski, he doesn't know.
