VIC DARCHINYAN: "ONCE I TAKE CARE OF YAMANAKA, ARCE, YOU CAN BE NEXT"

By Mike Juhas | April 05, 2012
VIC DARCHINYAN:

"I think he will run and I think once he gets hit, he will be running even more. I am ready for whatever he brings to the table. He is in for a long night; it's going to be a breakdown...I want Mares next. He is all hype and I am going to expose him for what he is, a cheat. I want to fight Mares at any weight; 122, 126 or even 190. Another bum is Arce. He is going through all the fighters that beat him, but he doesn't mention me. You know why he doesn't mention me?  Because I will end his career forever. He is a chicken, ready for the oven. Once I take care of Yamanaka, Arce, you can be next. I always go for the knockout and I will be doing that here. Yamanaka is good, but I am better," stated former champion Vic Darchinyan, who talked about his upcoming clash this weekend with WBC bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka. Check it out!

MJ: Hey Vic, how has training been for your upcoming title fight?

VD: It has been good. I have been training hard for this fight. I know how important this fight is to my career and I am ready to go.

MJ: How do you feel your style will mesh with Yamanaka's?

VD: I think he will run and I think once he gets hit, he will be running even more. I am ready for whatever he brings to the table. He is in for a long night; it's going to be a breakdown.

MJ: How does it feel fighting in Japan?

VD: It feels good. I've traveled around the world fighting as a pro and amateur and Japan is one of best countries Ive been to in my career. Teiken Promotions has been very good to me and I appreciate everything Mr. Honda has done to make my team and me feel at home. I feel bad about taking the belt with me, but I will definitely love to fight in Japan again soon.

MJ: You're seeking a major sanctioning body world title in a third weight class. Tell us about what this means to you.

VD: I only want to fight for world titles and the WBC has been my goal title ever since I was a kid. To have that green and gold belt in any weight class is the highest of the high achievements to reach in boxing. Jose and Mauricio Sulaiman have been wonderful to me in my career so far, and I am so proud to be able to represent the WBC the best way I know how and that is to be the best champion inside the ring, winning world titles, but also being the best role model to young kids and young fighters. My manager, Elias Nassar, and I are very aware you need to be the best you can be inside and outside the ring, because to represent the WBC is all about that and more. Thank you to Mauricio and Jose Sulaiman for giving us those values to live and fight by.

MJ: How difficult has the adjustment been as you've moved up in weight over the years?  Was it matchups, money, or trouble making weight that caused you to move up weight classes?

VD: I have never had trouble making weight because I live a good lifestyle. I don't drink, smoke, or party hard. I am a family man and this is my job to feed my family. My job is to box and part of boxing is to make weight. I could make 112 for this fight, easy.

MJ: The last time we talked was in Tacoma when you lost a controversial decision to Abner Mares that I thought you won. Is it imperative for you to score a knockout fighting in Yamanaka's backyard?

VD: I didn't lose that fight; I was robbed. He was warned for low blows, then he was deducted a point for another low blow. He was then warned 16 times after that. He should have been disqualified, but the referee was too scared to stop the fight. Abner Mares is a cheat. He knew what he was doing. I pray he wins and I win because I want Mares next. Yamanaka is good, but I am better.

MJ: Gaining another world championship would be huge for your legacy. Have you thought about what the fans can expect to see in Vic Darchinyan's future?

VD: More and more world titles. Anyone with a belt, I am waiting for you. Vitali and Wladimir, I want you!

MJ: Is there anything else you'd like to say to your fans at FightHype.com?

VD: Thank you for being there for me in all my fights. I fight the best because that's what my fans deserve for spending their money. I am forever thankful.
