DEVON ALEXANDER TEAMS UP WITH AL HAYMON

Sources close to the information have informed us that former jr. welterweight champion and current WBC #2 ranked welterweight contender Devon Alexander has inked an agreement with world-renowned advisor Al Haymon. The decision to join forces with the influential Haymon is a powerful move made by Team Alexander, who no doubt had to be wondering how lightweight Robert Guerrero, who hasn't fought in over a year and is coming off of shoulder surgery last August, was able to leapfrog the #2 ranked contender and face #1 ranked contender, Selcuk Aydin, for the WBC interim welterweight title. While Guerrero has yet to even debut in the welterweight division, Alexander is coming off of perhaps his best performance to date, a dominant unanimous decision victory over the hard-hitting Marcos Maidana, winning virtually every round on all three scorecards in the process. The performance thoroughly impressed Haymon, who was in attendance for the fight.

Alexander (23-1, 13 KOs) is the third fighter in the past 5 weeks to sign an advisor agreement with Haymon, following in the footsteps of undefeated WBA "regular" jr. middleweight champion Austin Trout (24-0, 14 KOs) and undefeated middleweight contender Peter Quillin (26-0, 20 KOs), who both signed with Haymon last month. The news of Alexander teaming up with Haymon comes on the heels of the announcement that his next fight will take place on August 18. An opponent has yet to be determined, but the bout is expected to headline a Showtime card. Although Alexander is already a well-known name and a tremendous draw in his hometown of St. Louis, there's no doubt that he'll get even more exposure, as well as the fights he's looking for, now that he's working with someone with the influence and clout of Haymon. He now joins a growing stable of fighters that already includes Andre Berto, Adrien Broner, Paul Williams, Antonio Tarver, Jermain Taylor, Gary Russell Jr., Seth Mitchell, Peter Quillin, Austin Trout, Chris Arreola, and of course Floyd Mayweather.
