SAUL ALVAREZ:

"Oscar's given me advice on where Shane doesn't like to be hit and where to hit him...My mentality is to go in there, perform, and win, but not look for the knockout...I'm prepared for the best Shane mosley and I'm prepared to do my job in the ring. I'm prepared for a full 12 rounds," stated WBC jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who talked about his upcoming May 5th clash with three-division world champion Shane Mosley during a conference call to promote the bout. Check out what else he had to say.

SAUL ALVAREZ:

I'm very motivated to be fighting a fighter of Shane Mosley's caliber. I mean, growin up, as I was coming up in boxing and learning, I used to watch a lot of videos to pick up stuff to learn from him, so today, to now be fighting him is a dream come true.

Many people are saying that I'm the big favorite, but you know what? I can't underestimate a fighter like Shane Mosley. I am confident in my conditioning, of my training, of the camp I've had, but not of my opponent. I'm going to be very weary and very smart in picking my punches, but I'm very, very confident that he's coming in at the best. I'm looking forward to fighting the best Shane Mosley ever.

Oscar's given me advice on where Shane doesn't like to be hit and where to hit him, but, you know, right now we're working on our game plan, following it, because after the first round, a lot of the times, you know, it can all go out the window and you gotta adjust. We're prepared for anything.

My mentality is to go in there, perform, and win, but not look for the knockout. You know, when you go out there and look for the knockout and it doesn't come, other obstacles will come through and you don't get your plan out, so I'm prepared for the best Shane Mosley and I'm prepared to do my job in the ring. I'm ready for 12 rounds.

I'm very happy to be representing Mexico on such a very important day for all the Mexicans, and for me, I mean, to be on this card, to be on this day, and to be fighting a fighter like I'm fighting, it's very important and I'm very honored and proud and that's why we're working very, very hard so that all the Mexicans can celebrate and be happy come Cinco de Mayo.

I assure you that nothing is going to break my concentration, my focus. I'm concentrating solely 100% on Shane Mosley. I have the experience now. It happened to me once, precisely on the card when Floyd fought Shane. I was a little distracted because it was all new, the big card, the big event, the media, the people, the scenery, so I've learned from that. Today I'm 100% concentrated on the task at hand and that's what I'm going to do.

I've learned a lot about him, you know, how he punches, how he counter punches, and his movements and everything. I've adapted it to my own style, but I've learned a lot from Shane Mosley.

Yes, I'm very, very happy and I'm very motivated and, you know, we admire him. It's an honor for me to be fighting him, but once I step into the ring, that all goes out the window. I'm here to fight and we're going to give the best of ourselves.

I'm going to gain a lot of experience and learn a lot from this fight because with Shane, I mean, he can counter punch you, he can catch you coming in with his lead punches. I mean, these are the kinds of fights we want to advance in my career to get better because the experience is very valuable.

I have to take speed, I have to take intelligence, I have to take power [into the ring]...I can't get overconfident.

It's a very difficult fight, it's a very important fight...that's why we're working very hard so the people will be convinced that we are the winners and we're ready for bigger and better things.

I'd be worried if I didn't train properly, if I didn't have a good camp, but it's not a worry...we're very confident it's going to be a very good fight; confident we're going to win.

Look, Floyd Mayweather is on the throne. He can decide right now because he is the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. All we have to do is keep working hard, keeping winning our fights, and that is my goal, to fight the best fighter.
