In a recent interview, three-division world champion Shane Mosley was surprised to hear that undefeated jr. welterweight champion Timothy Bradley was weighing just as much as him prior to the start of his training camp for his showdown with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. Mosley, who is in the middle of training for his own showdown with WBC jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, revealed that he's currently weighing about 165 pounds with just 3 weeks to go before 154-pound title clash. Knowing a thing or two about moving up and down in weight, Mosley acknowledged that Bradley may find it more difficult to shed the extra weight in order to make 147-pound weight limit, however, he does think the extra size will be a benefit come fight night.
"I'm heavier than usual, but lighter and faster and stronger than usual. It feels like I'm fighting back down at 147. I come to the gym at 165 and I leave at 160, and I don't feel heavy at all. I feel light, lightning fast, and strong, so that's the difference. When I get down to 154, it's going to be even better," Mosley explained as he talked about his own move up in weight for his next fight. "That [165 pounds] might be too big for Bradley to get down to 147, but he has time, so that's good. He probably put a little weight on him, thinking he can work it all off. The extra weight will do him some good and make him better and stronger. Manny better not take Timothy lightly. Tim's coming to fight, you know?"
Of course, thus far, the weight and size advantage of Pacquiao's previous opponents have never been a serious problem for him to deal with inside the ring. Will Bradley's extra size play a factor in the fight come June 9th? Time will tell, but Mosley is right about one thing. Manny better not take Bradley lightly.
