FightHype.com recently caught up with Floyd Mayweather Sr. to talk about Chad Dawson's recent performance against Jesus Ruiz as well as Anthony Hanshaw's upcoming clash with Roy Jones Jr. and much more.

PC: Big Floyd, how is it going my man?

FM: It's going great!

PC: I know when I spoke to you the other night, you mentioned you were getting the key to the city back home in Michigan on Father's Day. How were you informed that you would receive this honor?

FM: I got a call and everybody already knows what I've done for my son over the years. They felt like I was the perfect father for an event like this. So many people saw me work with my son over the years, so coming up in Michigan,  I'm in Michigan right now, I guess they felt that all of this was due to me for being such a good father, like I have, and bringing my son to where I brought him.

PC: You deserve it my man.

FM: I appreciate that.

PC: Congratulations on the Chad Dawson win a few weeks back. What did you think of his performance?

FM: I thought he fought great. I'm not going to call it a great fight because he wasn't fighting a great fighter. I thought he executed well for who was in front of him. He did what he had to do to take care of who he was fighting. I would give him a high grade for the way he fought. I would give him high grades for his performance and he did everything he was supposed to do. He did everything pretty much right. I think we could've gotten the guy out a little earlier. In fact, that's one of the things I've been working with him on and that's being more aggressive. In his last fight ,when he fought Adamek, he wasn't as aggressive as he should've been. He had the guy hurt on numerous occasions and he didn't follow up on it. This guy right here, I think he still could've ended it a little earlier, but the whole thing is he's learning. He's showing progress.

PC: I know you guys want Antonio Tarver next. What did you think of his performance?

FM: I gave him the fight, but it wasn't impressive. I would definitely give him the fight, but I wasn't impressed. He had the same type of guy that…to tell you the truth, I think Chad would've stopped the guy that Tarver just fought. They were the same type of guys, but Chad would've stopped him. Chad is the young spring chicken and Tarver is an older guy that's up there in age and I just don't see no way he could whoop Chad; by no means. Chad punches harder, he's faster, he's more of a complete fighter and with me, he's getting more knowledge. Each fight, he gets better and better.

PC: You also have Anthony Hanshaw fighting Roy Jones Jr. on July 14th. What do you think about that fight?

FM: Well, I'm going to tell you about that fight right there. First off, I feel bad I had to take off with Hanshaw because I only worked with Hanshaw a week before I took off. I really haven't had much time with Hanshaw, but I'll be going back Tuesday. I haven't had much time with Hanshaw at all. In fact, I won't have but two and a half weeks to do what I need to do so, you know, hopefully we could get back in and that's enough time to tighten him down and get him to do the things I need him to do. Everything wasn't all the way there when I left because I had only been with him for a week. He was learning, but this game right here, it takes time to get right. I'm expecting him to make a great showing. To be honest, I think I'm going to pull something out of the hat for that fight. When I get my feet back on the ground in Vegas, I think it's about to be a wrap for Mr. Jones.

PC: You think it's going to be a wrap for him, huh?

FM: I think it's about to be a wrap for him.

PC: Roy went on record to say if he can't beat Hanshaw, he needs to retire, so you're saying this is the last we may see of Roy Jones Jr.?

FM: I told Anthony Hanshaw the same thing. I told Anthony, "If you can't beat Roy Jones, forget about it; go get yourself a job." If you can't whoop Mr. Jones, it's time to go home! You know how I am; I'm going to call a spade a spade. I'm going to tell the truth.

PC: I know you tell it like it is.

FM: That's right.

PC: What's the latest with Laila Ali? When can we expect to see her in the ring again?

FM: I don't know man. She gave me an invitation to her wedding because she's supposed to be getting married in July. If I remember correctly, I think it's on the 22nd of July. She's supposed to be getting married and with her getting married like that, she may have a change of heart about boxing. She might have a change of heart and her husband might have a change of heart too. I don't know man, right now, she wants to be a mother and have a family. That don't sound like nobody that's trying to fight to me. We'll have to wait and see. Whatever she wants to do as far as if she wants to do it or don't want to do it, it's not going to stop me. I got a lot of things going on right now. I have a lot of plates on the table. I got a lot of things to take care of. I want to keep winning and it would really bother me to lose to a Roy Jones Jr.

PC: Roy says he back in old Roy form...

FM: Yeah, he is old Roy. He is the old Roy. If he thinks he's old Roy, he's right. Roy was never as good a fighter as he thought he was. He was just a good athlete. When I say athlete, that don't mean that he has to have skills. He just had good agility, speed and foot movement. To tell you the truth, he hasn't really beat anybody. Out of all those guys he beat, the only 2 that are fighters are Hopkins and James Toney. He beat James Toney and Bernard and that's it. Look here my man, if my man can't whoop Roy…

PC: You're going to tell him to put in some applications Big Floyd?

FM: Yeah, what you just said about an application. If you can't whoop Roy, go and get yourself an application somewhere and get in line.

PC: Big Floyd, it was an honor my man. I know you're a busy man and I'm not going to hold you too much longer. I look forward to meeting you in Biloxi at the fight.

FM: You going to be at the fight? Well, we not going to worry about that chief, you going to see me there. Sounds good! Take care of yourself now.
