Contrary to recent reports, sources close to the situation have just confirmed that three-time world champion Sugar Shane Mosley will indeed be facing former unidsputed welterweight champion Zab Judah on May 17th at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The bout is scheduled to take place on HBO pay-per-view.
As previously reported, Mosley was originally in negotiations with another former undisputed welterweight champion, Ricardo Mayorga. When talks began to stall, Judah, eager to prove that he's still an elite fighter, threw his name into the mix. More recently, newly crowned WBO welterweight champion Carlos Quintana was mentioned by ESPN's Dan Rafael as a potential candidate to face Mosley, but no real negotiations ever took place.
The original options that Team Mosley was considering were WBC jr. middleweight champion Vernon Forrest, Zab Judah, and Ricardo Mayorga. Although Mosley actually preferred a third fight with Forrest, wife/advisor Jin Mosley decided to go in a different direction, stating, "if they would have given us one billion dollars, I wouldn't let Gary Shaw make fifty cents off of the Mosley name."
