According to ESPN's Dan Rafael, promoter Bob Arum is already hard at work at securing middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik's next fight and one of the top names on that list is none other than three-division champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad. Arum stated that a potential clash could be set for June 7th at Madison Square Garden.
Although John Duddy is still the leading candidate for Pavlik's next fight, Arum admitted that he's had talks with Don King. "We've talked," Arum informed Rafael, "then King went down to Puerto Rico to meet with Trinidad last week. Then we spoke this week before he went to Germany and he said the meeting with the Trinidads went positively."
Assuming that Pavlik gets by Taylor unscathed, a fight with Trinidad would obviously be an HBO pay-per-view event. Arum insisted, however, that the fight would have to take place at the middleweight limit of 160 pounds. "If Trinidad can make that weight and provided the [purse] split is right, we would love to make the fight," Arum continued, "but I won't know for sure until I meet with King."
