According to an article by elnuevodia.com, the president of the Puerto Rico Boxing Commission, José "Toto" Peñagarícano, is urging three-division world champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad to stop fighting. Apparently, el presidente is worried that Trinidad may suffer a serious injury if he continues to fight for no reason whatsoever.
"It was silly that Trinidad returned for the second time to boxing and I believe that he should never fight again", stated Peñagarícano to the Associated Press. "I don't believe he has anything to gain, but a lot to lose and Tito doesn't have the finanical need to continue boxing," he added.
After more than two years in retirement, Trinidad returned to boxing this past January in a compeititve, but losing effort against Roy Jones Jr. Recently, there have been talks between promoters Don King and Bob Arum regarding a potential June 7th clash with middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik at Madison Square Garden. Peñagarícano doesn't think that's a wise decision.
"Tito should never fight Pavlik. He's young and he's not going to be as forgiving as Jones was, who didn't want to knock him out," Peñagarícano continued. "Tito must understand that he doesn't have anything to prove as an active boxer and he does not have to fight anymore."
