MAYWEATHER SR.: "THIS GOING TO BE MY SON'S FIRST LOSS AND HIS DADDY GOING TO GIVE IT TO HIM!"

By Percy Crawford | February 28, 2008
MAYWEATHER SR.:

"I'm here to tell you, believe it or not, this is my son's first loss and his daddy going to give it to him; mark my words when I tell youÂ…I'm the only one that got the ingredients to bring him back down here with us. That's what's going to happen. Right now, he's lost in loneliness, willingness and bitterness. He's lost in all of that. I'm going to train Oscar and do what I got to do," stated world-renowned trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. as he talked about his son and much more. Check out what he had to say about reuniting with Oscar De La Hoya to prepare him for his upcoming fight with Steve Forbes in May and his anticipated rematch with Mayweather Jr. later this year. Plus, Mayweather Sr. talks about the work he's been doing with Zab Judah to prepare him both physically and mentally for his upcoming clash with Shane Mosley. Don't miss this must read exclusive.

PC: What's good Big Floyd?

FM: Everything is good Percy. I'm getting ready to head out to Puerto Rico with Oscar. We had a press conference yesterday for the fight with Steve Forbes. I used to train Steve Forbes for like 9 fights.

PC: Are you guys still cool.

FM: Who? Me and Steve?

PC: Yeah, do you get along with him?

FM: I had nothing bad to say about Forbes at all yesterday. All of the other opponents De La Hoya ever fought, I talked about them and scandalized them and everything. I was cool man. I did a real good thing on Steve. I respect Steve. I told them, "First of all, I'm not planning on doing any poems about this fight because I respect and I like Steve." That's what I told them. I think this is a good opportunity for Steve to fight De La Hoya. I wish Steve the best, but I have a job to do. I laid it all out there like it was supposed to be. Steve understood. He said that he's been trained by me, Jeff and Roger and that we're all like his uncles. He said that everything he's learned, he learned from the Mayweathers. He's not about all of that bickering, arguing and stuff like that and Oscar ain't into that. The place is going to be full man. The tickets are at a cheap price, $25, $50 and $75.

PC: It's good to see you and Oscar back together.

FM: Yeah, well, he's glad to be back and he's glad to pay the money.

PC: You definitely will be compensated, I'm sure, and that's what it all boils down to.

FM: With me! He's done things for me and I've done things for him. He knows he would've been done a long time ago if it wasn't for me. I believe that he believes that, but I kept him afloat and he kept me afloat and made me a very wealthy man. There is nothing I can really say bad about him. Here you have this man done made me rich and you got my son throwing all of the money up in the air and making it rain for all these people he don't even know. Man, that man stupid, man.

PC: What do you think about him being in the WWE?

FM: Man, that man is stupid, man! I heard he got 20 million for that. I see he named himself "Money" now.

PC: Yeah, he calls himself "Money May"!

FM: That's a damn shame man. He done lost sight about what's going on. It's going to take his daddy to spank his ass and I'm going to spank him with the old man Oscar! That's what it's going to take. Something has to give man because, trust me man, he's going down the wrong road. That's my son and I hate to say it man, but if he don't change some things he's doing, something is going to happen. It's too many people out there starving man to see him throwing money in the air and letting people see him count money in his house or wherever he counting it at. It's bad man because ain't nobody going to keep seeing him do that.

PC: People don't want to see other people do good anywayÂ…

FM: Let alone throw away money. Ain't nobody going to keep going for that.

PC: How far do you live away from Lil' Floyd?

FM: We stay about 25 minutes from each other. He's right off the highway and I'm kind of North.

PC: We had an interview up with your brother Jeff. I see you're going to let him train Joan Guzman while you get Oscar ready.

FM: I gave him Guzman to train.

PC: I never see many interviews with your brother, but he seems pretty cool.

FM: Who? Jeff? Oh yeah, Jeff's cool. He just had a fighter fight Klitschko. I went down there to New York when his fighter fought Klitschko. Klitschkos are garbage man!

PC: I wouldn't mind seeing you with a heavyweight Big Floyd.

FM: What you think man? I can't wait to get a heavyweight. That's one of my dreams right there.

PC: I know you though. It's going to have to be the right one.

FM: Oh yeah. Well you know I ain't going to take no anybody. I don't care if you're a heavyweight or not. I ain't going to take no anybody; I just don't do that. The guy was telling me in the gym today, "You can't get Floyd to take anybody; he got principles and morals." I know what I got and I know what I can do. I know what I can do right now and at this age, I'm still the best one in the game at doing what I'm doing. You don't see me worrying about getting nobody. My world is looking good. I got this fight with De La Hoya and it just so happens my son is going to be fighting De La Hoya. I really don't have to train no more, seriously, but I think I will keep training because I got too much to give up.

PC: No, you can't walk away right now man. You have way too much to teach still.

FM: (laughing) Nah, I can give it to somebody. I will give it to somebody. I got a little nephew named Kyle; that's Roger son and he on his way. He already knows how the game goes. I want to see Lil' Kyle get right too.

PC: Did you ever work anything out with Zab Judah?

FM: I just got through talking to Zab's father. I told Yoel I had to go down to Puerto Rico for a month and then I'm going to come back. I was going to let Jeff train him too, but he said he would rather train Zab himself until I get back. He told me that Zab like the stuff that I'm teaching him. He told me he'll probably come down and take over when I leave and then when I come back, they'll get them a place up in Big Bear and set up camp.

PC: I think if anybody could get him right, you're one of them. That seems like a good fit for Zab.

FM: He like what I'm doing. He told his father he like what I'm doing so for him to tell his father, who trains him all of the timeÂ…that's it. If his father approve of it and Zab approve of it, that's it. Nobody else needs to approve of it; that's it. I see a lot of things he needs to do and he going to be okay.

PC: Is it a big difference for you training a southpaw or it don't bother you much?

FM: Oh yeah, it's definitely a big difference for me. I ain't never trained but one left hander in my life and that was Chad and he won a world title and I'm about to change Zab and make sure he win a major fight. This going to be a major fight for him. He gotta win this one and I gotta make sure he wins this one. Zab got the ingredients to do what needs to be done. I'm not worrying about that. There is a lot of different ways I'm about to position Zab and get him in shape. He didn't know what condition is. That's one of his biggest things is condition. I do know that. He also has a lack of a little knowledge that he needs and I'm going to put him in position with that and he should be alright. I'm going to get him ready mentally and physically. I'm going to keep his head on straight; that's what you have to do with Zab if you notice. You gotta keep his head on straight. He had a problem with Kostya Tszyu, my son and Baldomir so I gotta keep him straight. The tools are there and there is no question about it.

I'm here to tell you, believe it or not, this is my son's first loss and his daddy going to give it to him; mark my words when I tell you. He'll see. And I ain't going to do it with a young buck like him. I'm going to do it with an old fighter that he's supposed to beat! That's right! I'm the only one that got the ingredients to bring him back down here with us. That's what's going to happen. Right now, he's lost in loneliness, willingness and bitterness. He's lost in all of that. I'm going to train Oscar and do what I got to do. This is my obligation and I feel good being back with Oscar. Me and Oscar done had a long bond together and he understands me and I understand him and right now, I feel good. It's so much stuff that I have learned. I'm still learning, believe it or not. I'm going to be honest with you man. I can't believe it man; I'm still learning.

PC: You think you guys can pick right back up where you left off?

FM: Oh yeah. That ain't no problem right there. He knows how my thing goes and he catches on to whatever I teach him. The only thing he couldn't catch on to is rolling. He could roll his shoulders good, but he couldn't come back with no punches. It's no reason to roll because you make a guy miss, but you don't make him pay; to me, that's just a defense to have a guy punching at you. You make them miss, you have to fire back and make them pay. He wasn't doing that so we left that alone man. I got him back like he supposed to be. He's going to be great.
