Sources close to the situation have informed us that a major announcement regarding the future of former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko is expected some time this week.
As previously reported by Chad Edward of Nokaut.com, EliteXC has already offered Emelianenko a four-fight, seven-figure deal that could land him on network television.
At one point, the new Golden Boy Promotions/Affliction startup organization was also rumored to be in negotiations with Emelianenko, but it appears those talks might be on hold with the news that Golden Boy Promotions may now be walking away from the partnership.
While EliteXC, who now has television deals with both Showtime and CBS, seems to be the most logical choice to land the highly sought after free agent, it wouldn't be surprising to see Emelianenko follow the lead of other well-known free agents and sign elsewhere, like former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia, who just recently signed with the newly formed Adrenaline MMA organization.
Mark Cuban's HDNet Fights, who televised Emelianenko's last fight, and of course the UFC are also strong possibilities. A decision is forthcoming, an announcement will be made soon and we'll all have a better understanding of what lies in store for arguably the world's top MMA heavyweight.
