"I need this win so bad. He's a huge name and everybody has him ranked in the top 10 in this weight class so it would really legitimize me," stated WEC featherweight Mike Brown as he talked about his clash this Sunday with Jeff Curran. Check out what else he had to say about the fight and much more.
PC: How are you doing man?
MB: I'm good man. Just trying to lose the weight. I'm over here in Sacramento. I'm twiddling my way down to nothing.
PC: How was training camp for this fight against Curran?
MB: It's been great man. I'm healthy. We had a lot of guys training at the gym so there were so many good training partners for me.
PC: How exciting is it for you to get an opportunity to fight in the WEC?
MB: It's good man. I think it's the best show in the world for the little guys. If you fight at 135 or 145, this is the best place to be.
PC: Curran is coming off of a title shot loss to Faber. Are you preparing for the hungriest Jeff Curran possible?
MB: Yeah! Nobody wants to lose. I would think
well, I'm not certain where his mental is, but I know he'll be ready to fight.
PC: He has great Jiu Jitsu skills, but I'm sure you didn't have a hard time finding ground guys at ATT?
MB: (Laughing) that's one thing we don't have a shortage of. That's our strong point. As far as an MMA team, I say we have the best grapplers in the world.
PC: Some people may look at your record and see that in all 4 of your losses, you were submitted. Facing a guy with sub skills like Curran could be dangerous. What will be the difference?
MB: I think we're both good on the ground. I've been submitted in all of my losses, but a lot of them were earlier in my career before I was training with ATT. It was before I was rolling with world class grapplers.
PC: You haven't lost to any scrubs either; Franca, Lauzon and guys like that.
MB: Yeah, they weren't scrubs, but I was still submitted. My grappling is much better since I've moved to ATT, but I did recently lose to Imanari, but his style is hard to train for. He's got that crazy leg lock game.
PC: You're on a 6-fight winning streak. What do you feel has been the key to this success?
MB: I think the solid team that I train with. We put together solid MMA games so we fight MMA fights; we don't have a lot of holes and we always come in shape.
PC: With the 145 pound division heating up, where would you like a win over Curran to place you in the division?
MB: I need this win so bad. He's a huge name and everybody has him ranked in the top 10 in this weight class so it would really legitimize me.
PC: Good luck Sunday. I wish you all the best. Is there anything you want to say in closing?
MB: Thanks Percy. I appreciate you calling me. I just want to thank American Top Team and my sponsors, Fightconnect.com, Islandsupplements.com and Tapout. I appreciate everything.
