NATE CAMPBELL: "I'M GOING TO SHOW HIM HOW TO LOSE!"

By Percy Crawford | August 06, 2008
NATE CAMPBELL:

"You gotta bring some ass to get some ass and he ain't got no ass to bring. He gonna lose his ass. He could do anything he wants to do as far as talking, but he can't do it in the ring," stated WBA, IBF & WBO lightweight champion Nate Campbell as he talked about his upcoming clash with Joan Guzman. Check out what else he had to say about Guzman, the fight, his thoughts on Clottey's win over Zab Judah, Margarito's win over Miguel Cotto and much more.

PC: How have you been doing my man?

NC: Everything is good man. I can't complain. Everything has been going good.

PC: Joan Guzman on September 13th. How long have you been in camp already for that fight?

NC: I've been in camp for about 3 weeks now.

PC: Are you finding good sparring partners to prepare for Guzman?

NC: Yeah, good sparring. I have a bunch of good guys in camp.

PC: Stylistically, he's a different animal than Juan Diaz was. What adjustments are you prepared to make for this fight?

NC: I made an adjustment for Juan Diaz. I'm a professional prize fighter; I make adjustments. He only fights one way. When have you seen him change? He's a bully. He wants to bully guys; nobody bullies me! All of that talk about Mayweather Sr. can train him to beat me, look, you can only train a man…you could only lead a horse to water; you can't make him drink. What he fails to realize is I'm going to be the other mothafucka standing across the ring from him. Nobody will ever make me quit and I fear no man when we in that ring.

PC: Guzman was doing a little talking leading up to the fight getting signed. Any comments on some of that back and forth?

NC: All I got to say is this here…we gotta fight. You gotta bring some ass to get some ass and he ain't got no ass to bring. He gonna lose his ass. He could do anything he wants to do as far as talking, but he can't do it in the ring.

PC: Diaz was 33-0 coming into his fight with you and Guzman is 28-0. Are you in the business of taking these undefeated records away from these young guys now?

NC: Oh yeah, I like that. These guys gotta realize something; I get off when I get an undefeated fighter. I like when they make these guys out to be gods. I done proved something; they putting them gods in smaller packages. I'm going to show him something. I'm going to show him how to lose.

PC: In the Diaz fight, I saw a lot of old school movements from you; a lot of slipping and sliding, rolling over and countering. Is that something you went back to in the gym?

NC: Ya'll fail to realize, I've always fought that way. It was nothing different about the way I fought. I fought the way I always fought. They try to make my whole career based off of my losses and that's unfair. You can't make my whole career about me losing because, no offense, but these guys that ain't lost haven't fought nobody.

PC: What did you think of the Cotto-Margarito fight?

NC: I told everybody that was going to happen just like it happened. I actually didn't think he would be able to go that long. Not because he's not a good fighter, but because Margarito is a professional prize fighter. Everybody has the misconception that these guys are gods. Margarito is an outstanding fighter and Cotto is a good little fighter. I don't have a beef with any of these guys. I didn't have a beef with Guzman until they started making statements about me, but now he gotta see me. The thing about it is, I love it when these guys talk trash because they fail to realize something. They signed a contract to fight a guy that can put his foot deep in they ass and I'm going to do just that.

PC: What did you think of Clottey's fight with Zab Judah?

NC: I told everybody how that fight was going to go too. Not because Zab can't fight, but because Clottey is an in-your-face-all-night type of fighter. I can box, punch or slug. Anything out there that needs to be done, I can do it and I can still knock you out. The thing is this, do you think it was better or worse that Diaz went the distance?

PC: It was definitely worse for him.

NC: Exactly. Somebody told me a long time ago, I do more damage not knocking these guys out. I've taken that to heart so if I don't knock him out, I don't care. Everybody saying it like, "look what Guzman did to Soto." No offense, but his face looks like Soto did something to him.

PC: If this fight is indeed in Biloxi, how do you feel about it being in the South?

NC: I'm happy it's coming to the South. Guzman could talk all of the trash he wants, but he has to realize he can't bring all of the people to the fight that I can. I'm from the South. They don't want to get that going so let's just keep it boxing.

PC: We're going to save something for later Nate. Give me some closing thoughts for your fans my man?

NC: I keep something every day, all day. I want to thank my fans for supporting me and sticking with me. Now we sit on top of the mountain and they want to stop us, but they won't so don't worry about it.
