"I'm willing to stand and bang with any of these guys, but like I said, we will work on a gameplan for Wain just like we did for Wellisch because each fight in the UFC is different," stated UFC heavyweight Shane Carwin as he talked about his upcoming clash with Neil Wain at UFC 89 in England. Check out what else he had to say about Wain, the fight and much more.
PC: How is it going Shane?
SC: Everything is going good man. I'm just training hard and getting ready for the next fight.
PC: You were very impressive in your UFC debut. Were you nervous and just did a good job of disguising it or did you keep the nerves down?
SC: I kept my nerves down pretty good. We were joking around in the back and I think that helped. A fight is a fight man so I was just ready to go.
PC: Christian Wellisch was coming off of 2 impressive wins in the UFC, both by submission. What did you know about him as a fighter going into that fight?
SC: I knew he had a lot of experience and he trains with some top notch guys over there at AKA. I knew he would be a tough opponent.
PC: You would never guess your background was in wrestling from the Wellisch fight. How much has working with Trevor Wittman helped your boxing?
SC: Trevor means the world to me right now. He has helped my game out so much, I can't even tell you how much. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can because that's MMA now. You can't just come in and know one thing and stick to that so I'm learning and Trevor is a big part of that learning process.
PC: UFC 89 you will be fighting in England against Neil Wain. What do you know about him?
SC: Again, he's a tough guy, it's going to be in his backyard and he's an undefeated fighter so I'm not taking him lightly.
PC: As impressive as your UFC debut was, I'm sure you're going to do everything in your power to make his an unsuccessful homecoming and debut?
SC: Yes, I want to go in there and get the win. I expect him to come out and try to make a statement, being that it's in his backyard and it's his first shot in the UFC. I will have a gameplan coming in that I will stick to and hopefully it works. I'm ready to fight and get in there again.
PC: He's ended all of his fights by KO or TKO. Do you think we will get to see your wrestling in this fight or are you willing to stand and bang with him?
SC: I'm willing to stand and bang with any of these guys, but like I said, we will work on a gameplan for Wain just like we did for Wellisch because each fight in the UFC is different.
PC: We're at a point in MMA where these guys are full-time fighters. You work a full-time job as well as train full-time. How do you manage?
SC: I love to fight. I'm an engineer so I don't have to fight, but I love getting in there and competing man. I train on my lunch breaks and after I get off of work so there really isn't much downtime and sleep in days.
PC: You're a big, strong guy that's in a pretty open weight class. What separates you from the other heavyweights in the UFC right now?
SC: I would have to say experience. I think a lot of these guys have been doing this for a long time and I've been at it for 3 years so once I get some more fights under my belt, I think I will be okay, but for now, I'm just taking it one fight at a time.
PC: Thanks for your time my man. I look forward to your next fight against Wain. Is there anything you want to say in closing?
SC: No, man. I just want to thank my team, all of my training partners, trainers and the UFC.
