FABRICIO CAMOES: "KJ NOONS' WEAK POINTS ARE MY STRONG POINTS!"

By Percy Crawford | August 25, 2008
FABRICIO CAMOES:

"I know KJ has heavy hands, but you know what, a fight is a fight man so he goes to war with his weapons and I come to the war with my weapons and we'll see who the best is. I think he has an okay chin, but I have been working so hard on my standup that maybe I would surprise him by throwing punches with him," stated Fabricio Camoes as he talked about his desire to take on the best in his division after his quick and impressive win over Sammy Morgan. Check out what else he had to say as he talked about his willingness to fight on the October CBS card and much more.

PC: Congrats on a hell of a win against Sammy Morgan.

FC: Thank you man!

PC: What did you think of your performance?

FC:  We worked hard here. I had a couple of guys here helped me with my training and they make me strong. I know what I have and I knew I was ready to fight, but I didn't expect it that fast.

PC: Sammy was a huge step up for you with his experience. Were you surprised you were able to get him out of there so quickly?

FC: Yeah, I was surprised to finish the fight that quick. I knew he was a big guy and has had some good matches. I was trained and well-prepared, but I didn't expect to win that fast.

PC: Sammy was definitely trying to establish his leg kicks. Is that why you decided to take it to the ground so that wouldn't be effective?

FC: I worked a lot on my standup. I improved my standup very much and I don't think he expected me to shoot in on him so fast. He threw some kicks to see my reaction and then I was trying to find space to hit him. He threw 1 kick, 2 kicks and then the 3rd kick, I checked with my shin and I think he hurt his foot on my shin so he tried to come in and throw some punches, but I shot on him pretty good. He came down and I mounted him and he made a mistake when he turned and put his hands on the mat because that gave me free space to choke him.

PC: What was your gameplan going into that fight Fabricio? Did you want to stand and bang with him more, but the opportunity to take him down was just there?

FC: I expected to stand up with him in this fight. I've been getting a lot of good work out here on my standup game. My gameplan was to standup with him, but I'm a Jiu Jitsu fighter man. As soon as I have an opportunity to finish a fight, I finish it. I didn't expect it to come that quick, but if the opportunity comes early, thank God I'm strong enough and smart enough to capitalize on it.

PC: Back when MMA first became mainstream, they didn't have a show like ShoXC for young guys to showcase their talent. What does it mean for you to showcase your talent on a forum like ShoXC?

FC: Yeah, I talked to my manager and they got with EliteXC to get me a fight. I'm always in shape and prepared to fight. I think I am ready for an opportunity with the big boys. I came over here and I know the guys in America don't know me yet, but I fought all of the best guys in Brazil so I have the experience there. I came over here to fight the best guys and I think EliteXC will give me a good opportunity.

PC: I saw Diego Sanchez in your corner. How much was he a part of this camp to get you prepared?

FC: We train together every day man. Since I came here, we've been like brothers. He helped me a lot. We are together all of the time after we train. Diego is a wonderful kid. I am so grateful to be able to learn from him and help him with his training too. We have some great training partners here like Joe Duarte and Charlie Diaz; those guys always help me. The camp here is awesome man. You should come here and visit for a couple of days.

PC: I definitely would like to come check out your camp and get some footage of you my man. I'm planning a trip back to California really soon.

FC: Yeah, for sure man. Whatever day you want, you are invited.

PC: I appreciate that Fabricio. We'll have to hook that up.

FC: For sure.

PC: You also talked about a fight with KJ Noons after your win. What do you think of him as a fighter and how would you approach a fight with a good striker like Noons?

FC: I think KJ Noons' weak points are my strong points. He has very good standup and he knocks out some guys, but like I told you before man, I am prepared for any kind of fight inside of the cage. I worked so hard to do that so I want the opportunity to show everybody how tough the training is here. I train with a couple of boxers too and those guys give me a hard time with standup, but I think I have a good chin. I know KJ has heavy hands, but you know what, a fight is a fight man so he goes to war with his weapons and I come to the war with my weapons and we'll see who the best is. I think he has an okay chin, but I have been working so hard on my standup that maybe I would surprise him by throwing punches with him. I want to show that to the public because they seem to like the knockout over here so I want to make a good match for everybody.

PC: Great win. I look forward to your next fight and I'm expecting big things from you my man. Is there anything you want to say in closing?

FC: I don't know if they want to put me on the October card, but I want to fight in October. I think I will get the opportunity against somebody on there, but I don't know yet. I'm already in shape and I'm training right now. I train every day so as soon as they give me a date, I will be there. Thank you Percy and I'm sorry for my bad English, okay?

PC: It's perfect man; no worries.

FC: Thanks friend. You have a good day.
