| According to Ribas Reyes of El Nueva Dia, former three-division champion Felix Trinidad, along with lawyer Nicolas Medina and advisor Pepe Branches, met with promoter Don King for two hours at a hotel in Puerto Rico to discuss the future of his boxing career. When the meeting was over, King emerged with a resounding "Viva Puerto Rico" before announcing that Trinidad was ready to exact revenge against the first man to beat him, Bernard Hopkins!
"We are going to do the rematch with Bernard Hopkins; the rematch that Tito Trinidad is missing," King announced. Trinidad echoed Kings announcement to some nearby fans, stating, "We can fight any time. I'm at peace with myself, but upon beating Hopkins, I'm going to be even better. I'm going to beat Hopkins by any means necessary."
Trinidad would prefer for the fight to take place at a catchweight of 168 pounds. The fight would likely take place in November of this year. According to King, it was Team Hopkins who first initiated the discussion of a rematch. Both he and Trinidad spoke to Team Hopkins a second time by telephone before making the decision to return for the rematch.
