VIC DARCHINYAN: "AFTER I BEAT AGBEKOI WILL RETIRE DONAIRE"

By Percy Crawford | July 01, 2009
VIC DARCHINYAN:

"After I beat Agbeko, I will fight anyone who is a true warrior…I'm not only going to break him, but I will retire Donaire. I'm going to have it where his corner or no doctor will stop the fight because I'm going to slowly beat him badly and then stop him and retire him. He talks a lot and he forgot who made him, you know? I want to beat him and retire him. I made him and I will break him," stated undisputed super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan as he talked about his upcoming July 11th clash with Joseph Agbeko and his future plans. Check it out!

PC: How is training going for your July 11th fight against King Kong?

VD: Training is going very good. I feel more powerful than in my last fight. I plan on showing my power!

PC: You have been a man of your word of late. You promised knockout victories in both the Mijares and Arce fights. How do you feel about those two wins now that you've had time to reflect on them?

VD: I had been waiting on the Arce fight for a long time and it finally happened. I promised the media I would knock him out and I did. I fought very smart and still kept my promise. I will show the same power in my next fight against Joseph Agbeko. He is supposed to be a big power puncher, but I'm going to beat him big.

PC: You've also shown in your previous two fights that you can box and that you just don't have a big punch. Do you think you will have to display your boxing skills as well because of his punching power?

VD: No! I've always had boxing skills. I had a long amateur career, you know? The only reason I usually show off my punching power is because I know I'm always more powerful than my opponent. Sometimes I fight passive, but most of the time, I'm aggressive because I like to knock people out. I like to destroy my opponents all of the time.

PC: You were emotionally wrapped up in the Arce fight because of the long wait and the trash talk. Was it a little tougher to get motivated for a guy that you have no history with?

VD: No, I'm motivated for all of my opponents. I want to beat them all and everyone thinks he's this big power puncher and that's motivation enough for me. I always want to beat my opponents. Mijares wasn't really saying too much either and I still went out and destroyed him. After I beat Agbeko, I will fight anyone who is a true warrior. I love to fight.

PC: Your promoter is so confident in your ability, he has actually said he could see you fighting Manny Pacquiao at some point. Is that possible?

VD: Of course I would I don't think Manny Pacquiao punches that much harder than me. It's just right now, there is 22 pounds that separates us. I will challenge anybody that they put in front of me, but right now, he's too big for me to even talk about fighting him. I will move up in weight soon, but not high enough to fight Pacquiao yet.

PC: I know you want the rematch with Donaire. How (cutting in)…

VD: Oh yeah! I will fight him at any weight. I want to move up, but if he wants to fight me at any weight, I want that fight. I want to break him. I made him and I want to break him. I'm not only going to break him, but I will retire Donaire. I'm going to have it where his corner or no doctor will stop the fight because I'm going to slowly beat him badly and then stop him and retire him. He talks a lot and he forgot who made him, you know? I want to beat him and retire him. I made him and I will break him. I've retired young fighters before and I will retire Donaire if he fights me again.

PC: You have been a man of your word Vic. Good luck on July 11th. I look forward to speaking to you after the fight. Is there anything you want to say in closing?

VD: Thank you very much. I just want to show the people and especially my fans that I'm a stronger fighter than my last fight and that I will continue to put on exciting fights. I'm much more powerful than my last fight. You're going to see some big punches and I will win by knockout again!
