For a counter puncher to beat a counter puncher, he must be faster on the draw, understand? Not only do you have to be faster, but you must be first and have intent to kill. The question is not who is faster, the question is will he use his guns or play toy cowboy all night long. Love him or hate him, it's up to the "Pretty Boy" to make this an interesting fight. Not flashy interesting, but technically interesting.
Both of these fighters are masterful counter punchers. Questionably the two best in the sport today. What separates them is the ability to lead with devastating power from different angles. Marquez has a great jab against slower opponents with no upper body movement, but not much else in the arsenal lead wise. Floyd has lead angles that will cause JMM problems if he uses them and could hurt him early if he throws them with eager intention. It's primarily a lead left hook that Marquez is susceptible to and could be what breaks this fight wide open. The question again is will Mayweather take the risk to make this a memorable fight?
Tough question, but I believe he will. I think he believes that JMM can't hurt him bad enough to take him out early, and since Marquez always starts out slow, he will jump on this. Warming up with Floyd is not an option. He always comes out warm and ready to go. By the time Marquez get's into the fight, it may be too late. The only reason I see this fight making it to the championship rounds is Floyd simply not taking the risk and beating JMM to the punch just enough times to make it a boring unanimous decision and another Prom night on PPV.
Though I will be rooting for a miracle in that of a Marquez beheading of the Mayweather, I am a realist and "styles do make fights". JMM in the end is bringing the proverbial knife to a gun fight. I just hope we see a little bloodshed before the killing.
Prediction: Ghetto beatdown by the fighter I love to hateÂ…Floyd Mayweather.
