In the main event, WBO super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (27-0, 24 KOs) had a much more difficult time than expected with challenger Rogers Mtagwa (26-13-2, 18 KOs). Despite sweeping the early rounds, Lopez found himself in a war with Mtagwa, who continued to press forward looking for the knockout. Both men traded heavy leather in non-stop, toe-to-toe action that left Lopez barely surviving the final round as Mtagwa tried to win in a dramatic fashion in what should be considered a candidate for Fight of the Year.

POSTFIGHT
"He was a very strong guy. Sometimes it's very difficult to fight guys like this because they have nothing to lose...I thought I won the fight. I had it under control," stated Juan Manuel Lopez. "The two guys we're looking at are Luevano and Rojas...in Puerto Rico, January 23 on the number one network HBO," stated promoter Bob Arum regarding the future plans of Lopez.
In the co-main event, WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (16-0, 14 KOs) kept his title and his undefeated record intact after a dominating win over Whyber Garcia (22-7, 15 KOs). After a slow start in the first three rounds, Gamboa turned up the pressure in the fourth as he quickly jumped on Garcia with a blistering combination. A hard right hand from Gamboa caught Garcia flush on the jaw and sent him crashing face first to the canvas. Although Garcia would make it back to his feet, it was all but over for him as Gamboa unleashed a barrage of punches that left referee Steve Smoger no choice but to jump in and call a halt to the action 58 seconds into the round. "I want to face whoever thinks that they're better than me. I want to prove that I'm the best in the world," Gamboa commented during the post-fight press conference. When asked about the possibility of a clash with WBO super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez, Tony Gonzalez, Gamboa's manager, stated, "Why not? Bring him on!"
