FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR: "SHANE, GO ON AND STICK YOURSELF"

By Suge Green | October 28, 2009
FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR:

Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently took time out from a night excursion with his celebrity entourage to speak to and thank his fans viewing the Pound 4 Pound DVD in their homes and worldwide on the web. On this particular evening in Las Vegas, Mayweather was keeping company with hip-hop/R&B stars Tyrese, Ray J and F. Gary Gray.

"Money May" spent several moments boasting of his accomplishments, all the while Ray J is ogling over Mayweather's jewelry excitedly, not unlike a paid hype man. One viewing the love fest wouldn't be wrong in waiting for Floyd to drape a giant clock on Ray J's chest and making it official, since he seems intent on surpassing Flavor Flav as the world's pound-for-pound greatest hype man.

Off camera, an unseen member of Floyd's entourage must have pried Ray J's lips from Mayweather's posterior with a crowbar because the adoration ceased just long enough for viewers to pick up an interesting dialogue about Floyd's first meeting with "Sugar" Shane Mosley. Apparently, Ray J was responsible for getting the two together and is now apologetic for the introduction.

"Listen, I brought the homie, I brought the homie Shane around and was cool with you...I apologize for even linkin' ya'll," said Ray J.

"No, no, the thing is this. Let them know this. Shane is a cool dude...even though someone had to put a battery in his back to pump him up to do that," responded Mayweather about the incident that followed his return bout with Juan Manuel Marquez.

"Yeah, that ain't even his style," Ray J cut in.

"Only thing I'm saying is this  When we play basketball, I played basketball with Shane a few times. He's never done that. I said when we played basketball, you know," Floyd continued.

"...and that's only 'cause I vouched for him," Ray J interjected again. "I'm like that's my nigga, he a good dude. This right before he had his, you know, couple wins...and I'm like (to Floyd) just give him a chance to be cool. He's cool people."

The portrayal of Mosley right here is quite comical if one is being honest. Here we have a down on his luck fighter, with six losses, and he has nobody to play basketball with.  It sounds like Shane wouldn't have a friend in the world if it weren't for Ray J and Floyd.

Ray J went on to say that he "wanted to jump up there," when Mosley challenged Floyd immediately following his victory over Marquez.

Floyd continued about Mosley, "Shane wants to get out of pocket...and I'm in the check cashing business. Some people, they call me Joe Clarke 'cause I'm know for leanin' on a motherfucker. We play basketball...he never, he never go out of character."

Mayweather's logic is most puzzling in this situation. He doesn't understand why Shane would force his way onto a microphone, following Floyd's PPV workout with Marquez, and make a challenge in front of millions of people since he didn't do the same thing on a basketball court.

"Now, all of the sudden, someone put a battery in his back. I don't talk about Shane on steroids. You know, fuckin' with me is like committing suicide man. Go on and stick yourself. That's what they say. Pretty Tony, go ahead and stick yourself, so, fuckin' with me, Shane, go on and stick yourself, you know, shoot yourself."

Suicide? Shoot yourself?

I guess that's what Mosley gets for challenging Shane in an actual boxing ring instead of on a basketball court. Maybe Shane's chances of Floyd accepting would have been better if the challenge was issued on wax. There's always next time.
