BOB ARUM: "THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST COMPETITIVE FIGHTS OF THE YEAR"

BOB ARUM:

"That fight was that fight and this fight is this fight. I think this fight, for me, is a much more intriguing fight and a fight that is getting a lot more attention because it's a much more competitive fight than the Mayweather-Marquez fight. Most journalists didn't give Marquez, and rightly so, any chance against Mayweather and in this fight, the journalists are split in their views as who's going to win, who's not going to win, and even those flatly making a prediction say that they really don't know who's going to win this fight, So this is a much more competitive fight," stated promoter Bob Arum as he spoke about the November 14th clash between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto during a conference call held yesterday.

With a week still left, Arum is pleased with the fact that the fight is the talk of the town and he's expecting a good pay-per-view turnout for a bout that many are split down the middle as to who will end up victorious. "This is probably one of the most competitive fights of the year and that's what's intriguing a lot of people, besides the fact that both of these young men, Miguel and Manny, are exemplary athletes. They really are a credit to the sport of boxing and they epitomize the best of what athletes should be," he continued.

No matter the winner, the matchup is bound to be a financial success for Arum's company, Top Rank Promotions, who promotes both fighters. When asked if it would be difficult to watch two of his fighters facing each other inside the ring, Arum replied, "You've gotta understand. When we take on fighters like Miguel, who fought all of his fights for Top Rank, and Pacquiao, who for the last four or five years [has been with Top Rank], my job is to put them in fights where they can make the most money, where they can get the biggest platforms, so sure it's tough to see one of my fighters beating up on another, but I am confident in this fight, that these two guys are going to give a great account of themselves." He added, "They're on the biggest stage that boxing can offer and they're going to make a lot of money, so in that regard, I've done my job."
