Recently I fought at the University of Miami, on Unconquered 1. After losing my first 2 MMA fights by split decision, I knew that I needed to change things up in training. I spent the past 2 and a half months doing my training camp out in San Diego, California at Team Alliance. I won't go too much into detail as far as my training went, but I will say that it was amazing.
It was hard being away from home and comfort for so long, but well worth it. Kerry Vera and I both had fights the same day, November 20th, and we were training partners for the entire camp. It was so nice to finally have a good girl training partner to work with. So many people helped me train for this fight and I want to thank them all and give credit where credit is due.
Eric Del Fierro was my main MMA coach for this fight. Casey Ryan, my main Jiu
Jitsu coach. Coach Billy, my Muay Thai coach. Dominick Cruz, Phil Davis and Joel Vera all helped me out tremendously with my wrestling. I also got to work with Josh Barnett and Master Lloyd Irving. I'm very thankful that I had such an amazing camp to train at and I really can't say enough.
I fought November 20th at the University of Miami. My opponent changed 2 weeks before my fight, causing me to have to lose more weight than originally expected to fight Michele Gutierrez. I was originally supposed to fight Tammi Schneider, but for whatever reason, she couldn't make it. Michele was a good sport to take the fight on short notice. I weighed in at 118.2 lbs.
The first round was all standup and clinching. The 2nd round started the same, but I really felt like I was at a strength advantage and decided to take it to the ground. I picked Michele up and slammed her. I immediately took full mount position. I started punching on her face; she was trying to buck me off. The ref didn't stop the fight, so I took the arm and submitted her via armbar.
I was pretty excited to get in my first MMA win and winning by armbar was a good feeling. It showed me that all my training had payed off and I really got to showcase a variety of skills in the fight, not just striking.
The fight will be on "Fight ZOne". I don't get that station and sadly, I don't really know all the details.
I have some fights in the works for this upcoming year. I can't wait to get back in the ring or cage.
Thanks again to everyone who was a part of this fight!
