ANTHONY JOHNSON: "I'M TRYING TO FIGHT PUNK ASS JOHN HOWARD"By Percy Crawford | December 17, 2009

| "I'm trying to fight in March. I'm trying to fight punk ass John Howard, but I don't think he wants to fight. He got his win over Dennis Hallman. He got the credit to fight me, so why don't he do it? He signed the contract once to fight me and then he backed out and now he's renegotiating or his managers and agents are, whatever, are being dumb about the renegotiating process. Just come on and sign the fight; sign the contract and fight me and stop running like a little bitch. I want to fight him. I really do. I seen this interview where he said he was going to make me pay for what I said, so I'm looking forward to seeing that. John Howard, put your dukes up lets do this and I'm going to knock your other tooth out because I know you got a fucked up grill. I'm going to give him the business," stated UFC welterweight contender Anthony Johnson as he talked about his eagerness to get back inside the Octagon to face off with John Howard. Check out what else he had to say about Howard, Josh Koscheck, Cung Le, his future plans and much more.
PC: It has been a long time my man. How have you been?
AJ: I can't complain. I'm alive.
PC: You are coming off of a disappointing loss to Koscheck. I thought it was funny to see the Octagon girls, Logan and Natasha, say he was faking an eye poke.
AJ: The fight was crazy. It was by far the weirdest fight that I think I have ever seen because I have never seen a fight stopped so much because of BS. But overall, I think I did good until he got me out of my gameplan. He said I poked him and he took this long Grammy Oscar Award winning performance that he did; saying that I poked him in his eye when I didn't got me out of my element, you know what I mean? The momentum was definitely going in my direction and then he pulled that BS and that just changed the whole fight. Other than that, I think I did okay. I'm going to fight him again. I promised him I'm going to beat his ass. He knew what was coming; that's why he wanted to take me down. I don't really remember him hitting me. I think he hit me one time, but it wasn't something that I would have to warn anybody about. You're going to get hit in every fight. But he felt my punches before I felt his.
PC: You had him hurt and then you threw an illegal knee and then he took the break for an alleged eye poke…
AJ: (Cutting in) I dropped him within the first couple of minutes because he went down for like a split second because of it. And then he shot in and I stopped his takedown and that's when we got into our little scramble and I threw the knee and I think he knew he was in trouble before that point, so he did whatever he could to get out of the situation. Josh has like 10 more fights than me, so he knows all of the tricks in the book right about now. I'm still very young and trying to learn some of those tricks, but you won't ever see me lying, saying I got poked in the eye or anything like that; that didn't happen. Because when I supposedly poked him in the eye, I gave him his respect and he took all 5 minutes and when he poked me in the eye, it took me 10 seconds and I was like, "Let's go at it." And then he faked the wrong eye and I think that's what got me out of my element. I thought I was about to beat him because when I threw that knee, it wasn't a little patty cake knee. It was one of those knees that could end your night. When it landed, I thought that I had cracked him upside the head good; of course, I thought I had timed it better. And then, I noticed his knees was still on the ground and it happened so fast, but I automatically backed away and gave him his time. But if you gotta lie to give yourself time to recover, then that's what you do. Real fighters don't do that shit, you know?
I definitely want to fight Koscheck again in 2010. I guess he thinks he's so good where he thinks he automatically deserves a shot at GSP because he's won a couple of fights, but he has to work his way up the ladder like everybody else. He was calling out Dan Hardy, but he can't beat Dan Hardy because Dan Hardy is a good striker. I got respect for Dan Hardy and his striking. I think I can knock out anybody, but Dan Hardy is a good fighter. He's got good standup and if Koscheck was getting dropped by me, and I was putting it on him with my standup, then Dan Hardy would really do something to him. I don't know what the man is thinking. I got a lot of respect for him and AKA, but I lost a lot of respect for him too for the shenanigans he pulled during the fight. If you gonna fight me, fight me and if you're going to beat me, then eat me, but don't BS me during the fight.
PC: That was a quick turn around from Yoshida to Koscheck. When would you like to be back in there?
AJ: I'm trying to fight in March. I'm going to give him the business.
PC: Cung Le is coming back on Saturday night. A lot of people think he's too focused on the movies. How has he been looking in the gym and what would you say to those people?
AJ: Cung knows the difference between being a fighter and an actor. He's been fighting long enough to know how to separate the two. Even if he did focus on the acting, he would still be a good fighter because nobody has figured him out. So Saturday is still going to be Cung's night, no matter what people say.
PC: How are those Pitbulls doing man?
AJ: They doing good man. I got one of them with me now. I got Megatron with me. I just went to an Alternative School in San Jose to talk to some kids and a Juvenile Hall to a Christmas play and talk to some more kids and I brought Megatron with me and they liked that. They doing good man. They are getting bigger and bigger every day.
PC: How many do you have right now?
AJ: I have 6 right now.
PC: I'm glad we finally caught up with each other. Good luck in 2010. Is there anything you want to say in closing?
AJ: Yeah, John Howard, sign the contract and fight me. Stop running, stop hiding, it's only so far you can go and if you want to go to another level in the UFC, not saying I'm the best, but you gotta get through me before you go to the next level and get another fight in the UFC. So sign the contract and let's do it. I want to tell everybody that I love them and thanks for all of their support. I gotta thank my sponsors: Knoxx, TapouT and BSN. I also gotta thank my agents, Ken Pavia and MMA Agents, everybody who has supported me, my family and my man Eddie Lor from www.xtremebullypitbulls.com. I promise everybody that sticks by me that I won't let you down next fight. I got distracted this fight, but I lost fair and square and you know what happens when I lose. I come back bigger, stronger and faster. Trust me, in my next fight, you will see a little bit more potential. I still haven't reached my full potential, but its coming. Call John Howard and tell him what's up. Tell him to go ahead and sign the contract. We can fight whenever he gets ready; let's do it. I want to do it in March. That's my birthday month, but I got a present for him. He doesn't even have to give me a present I have one for him. I want to meet him in Jersey.
