After word got to NABO heavyweight champion James "Lights Out" Toney that Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones had signed to fight each another, it didn't take him long to reach out to FightHype.com to share his thoughts. "Man, the media let's shit like this happen. This is ridiculous! Nobody is going to buy Hopkins-Jones II! Nobody in their right mind that is," shouted a very frustrated Toney, who is in disbelief that a boxer who was stopped in just over 2 minutes could be headlining a PPV. "You tell me, how they going to let Roy Jones headline a PPV after getting knocked out in a little over 2 minutes," he asked.
Toney strongly believes that fans are going to be disappointed if they're expecting any fireworks in the fight. "Man, you gonna have one guy running around the ring shaking his ass and the other running in like a ram with his head down hitting and holding," he continued. "This is not two old school fighters; this is an old fool and an even older fool!"
As for the outcome of the bout, Toney could care less because he doesn't think either man wants to see him. "Bernard knows he's catching Roy right. Roy don't have no legs no more and he never had a chin. People are cracking him on it now. Bernard knows this isn't a fair fight," he added. "Bernard should have come to see me, but he would rather fight an old, washed-up Roy. You have never seen me knocked out. They want to say that I'm old, short and fat, well fight me then!"
Toney also feels that the April 17th date of the fight is off by 16 days, joking, "The fight is happening 16 days late! They should have fought on April 1st. A fight on April Fools Day for two old fools because this fight is a joke."
As for Toney's own next move, it's undecided at this point. "Whoever calls first, whether it is in the UFC or a boxing match, I'm just staying in shape and I'm going to be ready either way," he commented.
