FightHype.com recently caught up with UFC lightweight contender Kurt Pellegrino to discuss his preparations for his upcoming bout against Fabricio Camoes at UFC 111. Pellegrino recently had the opportunity to get some sparring in with former WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto. "It's like a kick in the balls. He's good" he laughed as he described the experience. Pellegrino feels this camp has gone a lot better than the camp he had in his last outing, which led to a not so crowd-pleasing performance against Josh Neer. "I overtrained and I still beat Josh Neer, so this time, I will come in not overtrained and do what I always do," he explained.

As for the fight itself, Pellegrino is looking to inflict major damage on the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt. "I'm just going to go out there and fight my fight. I'm going to smash his face in," he stated with confidence. It's that same confidence that leads Pellegrino to believe that a victory should put him next in line for a title shot. "I never left. I got hurt, I got hurt. It's nothing I could do about that. I'm going to come back and win this fight and get my #1 contendership back for the belt and that's it," he continued. "I haven't lost in 2 years. Fabricio Camoes is in my way and he's going to take a beating and then I would like my #1 contendership."

That being said, Pellegrino is fully aware that a win over Camoes probably won't achieve his goal. "I don' think beating Camoes is going to make me #1 contender, so eventually, I will have to fight for the #1 contendership before I fight the winner of Edgar-Penn. So I got one more fight and who knows who will be the champion by that time," he added. Regardless, Pellegrino will be paying close attention to the lightweight title fight between Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn at UFC 112. "Of course I'm going to root for Frankie Edgar because he's from New Jersey and I wish him the best of luck. I would love the winner of that fight."
